FAYE DUNAWAY stand aside.-------------BEST SPECIAL EFFECTS-No film comes close to ED WOOD'S masterful special effects extravagant PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE from 1956 or 57 or 58 or 59.His flying saucer sequences are unbeatable and so realistic, GEORGE LUCAS spent days trying to figure how it was done as he was getting his STAR WARS together.He once admitted he was deeply inspired by EDDIE'S work, Although in Star wars it never really showed.Some critics actually thought STAR WARS did have better effects but they are currently in a mental institution .more to come.
BEST DIRECTED FILM-Easy choice- MANOS HAND OF FATE-66-Every scene from beginning to end brings out the craftsmanship of a fine director. His handling of the stars in front of the camera is impeccable, The director's ability of keeping the viewers interest with the flow of the film is outstanding. let's not forget the director's post production skills as well, the incredible editing, the music. Oh my, it is like watching a movie in heaven -oh wait a minute, maybe hell.
BEST GENRE TITLE-I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE-58-What other title could one think to give to a nicely directed, well acted, pretty dead serious film with good tech credits to boot. After all were they not going to call ROBERT WISE'S THE HAUNTING-63- CASPER'S FRIENDS ON THE LOOSE.
CALMEST GENRE FILM EVER-A tie between THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSCRE and THE EXORCIST-I have never entered a theatre where my rattled nerves were calm to a pleasant passive manner after nearly watching 2 hours of these subtle films. Beats easy listening stations any day.
BEST EDITING IN A GENRE FILM- What do you know ED WOOD wins again-Yes indeed, it takes a lot of editing talent to film a semi chase scene so realistic that it makes the viewer so enthrall that they don't know if it is day or night. Such is that wonderful film PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE, Even on June 21st , 8 hours non stop driving and not going very far, I doubt it.
BEST GENRE NUDITY- There has been some great erotic nudity in genre films over the years but nothing could top the turn on create in the scene where a 300 pound man goes running naked down the street in SON OF BLOB-72- It is visions like these which has create many a erotic dream for the female race since 1972.
BEST GENRE SPECIAL EFFECTS -This question has been debatable for years by genre fans. Which motion picture gave the viewer many minutes to ponder, HOW DID THEY DO THAT.In 1956 COLUMBIA pictures released EARTH VS THE FLYING SAUCERS. In 1957 COLUMBIA released THE GIANT CLAW and there is no question this effort's special effects was the peak of superb talent.COLUMBIA studios wondered where they went wrong the year before. The special effects in CLAW was so memorable it is believed years later SEASAME STREET was so inspired by the film it was how big bird was create. Now years later we see why a man named RAY HARRYHAUSEN went into obscurity but this film is regarded as a classic.
BEST GENRE SEX SCENE- Nothing could beat that wonderful scene from THE HOUSE THAT VANISHED-73 when a middle age mother goes to bed with her young son[in his 20's] in all it's r rated nudity. It is scenes like this that became so memorable in genre history on the effect it had on the audiences watching it.Like lowering concession stand sales the rest of the night.
