Caught Ron howard pitching for Canon and it certainly echoes some Backdraft. so....I drug out the good 'ole Zimmer this weekend and blasted the speakers in my car for a few hours. I know some do and some don't prefer his work, but I gotta say that this score really stands the test of time. The Arsonist's Waltz is just awesome. Show Me Your Firetruck is just simply exhausting and impressive. Now, with all the awesome releases coming out - is there a snowball's chance to hear more from this score. I know there are many more scored scenes not rep'd on the album - really cool vamps and the subtle stuff that Zimmer was known for at the time. Plus, remember when NBC showed the missing scenes to make it a 3 hour Sunday night movie? There were scenes with DeNiro's character doing more investigative work then previously shown and heard than what was in the theatrical. Anyway, with everyone pitching their Holy Grail wishlist in the past year - I pitch this one for 2012. We've been blessed with so many unique drops - I wonder if Milan/BMG would partner up with one of the local labels; to revisit this and try to expand and give it a renewed production that I feel it's earned. WOW, it's been 20 years since he wrote Backdraft and I think it may actually sell pretty darn well - again. Was just thinking about this score the other day as well. I know a lot of people hate Zimmer on this board but Backdraft was one of the first I ever purchased of his. I'd certainly buy a proper re-release.

Backdraft is one of Hans Zimmers best scores, and easily one of the top ten under the whole 90´s. I love how the CD is put together with especially the Arsonist´s waltz/335/Burn it all/You go, we go tracks and the music is 100% emotions. The oxygenmask breathing sound is also a nice touch here (especially at the end of 335). I loved how they used this to market the trailer for Jurassic Park in 1993 (the best example of how to market a movie ever) I wouldn´t mind a complete Backdraft, but i.m.o the CD released has all the best stuff and is a great CD including the songs too. Another Zimmer I would love to get an official complete release of is Black Rain

This was one of my first Zimmer scores and he has had very few that come anywhere close to this since then! Needless to say, I am not a big Zimmer fan anymore!

The best track on the disc is by far The Show Goes On by Bruce Hornsby & The Range. A classic.

One of my favorites as well. Looking at the scores by Hans I really like, they are usually in that time frame, Regarding Henry, Radio Flyer, Backdraft, Driving Miss Daisy-for obvious reasons, and I couple others I can't remember, this seems to be my favorite Hans time. Course I was much younger and REALLY getting into film music so I'm sure that had some influences. Ahhh the good old days.
