I was wondering whether you could help me with this question although because of the nature of the question I don't think you'll be able to give me an answer. Since childhood I have always been a fan of the 1986 movie Biggles aka Biggles: Adventures in Time. When the film first came out a soundtrack for the film was released with some of the score music (some with voices over) and also Jon Anderson's songs. I was just asking whether Stanislas Syrewicz score for the film stil exists, can it be tracked down and released. It contained some great music and only about 30% appeared on the original LP. Has this question been asked before? Has the composer been contacted?

Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated as I know it's a long shot.

Kind Regards

Pedro Ferreira

Don't know the answer but I would love for this to get a release. The songs and score still stick in my head after all these years though sadly I don't have the LP

I found a fairly decent LP rip online a while back so I can at least listen to the score, "Do You Wanna Be A Hero?" and "No Turning Back" until such time as / when a CD becomes available.

I would love the full score to be released. Short as it is, I love the punchy, heroic Biggles theme, so I'd like a longer version of that. Actually, I'd love to hear a full orchestra take a crack at it as well.

As far as I know, the film was released through UIP (who used to handle Universal and Paramount films in the UK until the early 90s) but it might well be free floating and virtually public domain one day. Certainly it's been released a couple of times on DVD by independent companies who release those movies, like Charade, that have fallen through the copyright cracks.

Sadly this also means the music rights might be in a tangle as well, though the original LP was an MCA issue.

If anyone knows more, I'd love to hear about it!

Yeah, like a widescreen version of the film the score as well is missing. Has any one tried to contact Stanislas Syrewicz? Perhaps he knows who holds the rights to the score. I like Jon Anderson's 'Do You Want To Be A Hero?' as much as everyone else but there's lots of incidental music from the movie I'd like to hear in MP3 quality. I hope it's not missing like the score to Ghostbusters II.

I grew up a fan of Biggles, reading a large number of the novels.

I saw the film on its release and accepted that, whilst not a representation of the novels, the character worked well enough and - I admit - I thoroughly enjoyed it. And the music score helped a great part. The cinema's surround sound/sub-woofer was highly effective and I fancied getting the soundtrack.

It took a few years, though, and I picked up a second-hand, somewhat scratchy copy but I did enjoy hearing the Jon Anderson song and some of the instrumentals. I recall that the theme for Maria (Marie ?) was particularly nice. Of course, not having the surround sound for Do you want to be a hero? meant the song was lacking but, oh well.

The album does include a few mind-numbing tedious songs but ejecting after track 2 on side one meant you could ignore these. I sold my copy on eBay some years ago ... I think the buyer was after one of those songs ... there's no accounting for taste!

I've watched the film on TV since and looked to buy the DVD but they're all cheap 4:3 releases ... I'd like a proper release with Dolby Surround/5.1 sound.

And, yes, I'd buy a CD release of the score for those lovely memories ...

I wonder if any one on here has the contacts or resources to track the score down. The original LP and casette soundtrack was fine but didn't present enough of the composers music, a lot of which was actually pretty good. It's also worth noting the title theme 'Do You Want To Be A Hero' is slightly different in the movie than how it is on the OST.

Such low expectations. I'd rather hear it in CD quality!

Ha, you're probably right! big grin

But I wonder who has access to the music? Could it be the composer?

I was wondering considering it's the film's 30th anniversary whether La-La-Land or Intrada have pursued making an complete soundtrack from this film.

As it's the film's 30th anniversary any word on whether La-La Land or Intrada release a soundtrack for from this movie?

I remember seeing this film on VHS, and always enjoyed the music, both score and song.

"Do you wanna be a hero ..."

I think this one needs a visit on CD.

Yeah the music was cool and as it's the anniversary this year it would be a shame not to do anything like providing an OST.

The movie was cool as well, very underrated.

I'm fortunate to have a very high quality transfer of this from a mint condition LP I managed to score on Ebay, but would love to have the full soundtrack. Superb score, and the music tracks are hugely evocative of that time period (i.e. I'm feeling old at 42!).

Would love to see this score (and the film, for that matter) get the red carpet treatment at long last.

The film was released on Blu-Ray approx. 1 year ago ... with excellent image and sound, vastly superior to the old pan & scan DVD releases. Well worth owning as it's great fun.

Yeah the blu-ray wasn't perfect but it was a huge improvement over what came before. It just seems such a shame not to get the full score. The anniversary this month seems like a great opportunity.

"Quick before they discover you're just an American".

"Quick untie us before they discover you're not a God you're just an American." What a great bit.
