Okay guys, I did a count of the additional cues in the film and I count some 31-32 minutes of music in the film which is not in the album.

That's out of 68-69 minutes of music I counted in the film.

This doesn't account for other possible 'extras' like unreleased cues, alternative versions, version with sound effects and version without, etc.

Apologies for sharing this as an image, but I can't tabulate the data properly in a post.

Bottom line is: WELL WORTH AN EXPANSION!

Cheers

Drooling. This is my favorite Barry score. Not only do I crave the extra cues, but also the remastering. The organ is completely buried in the current mix.

Oh man, I really hope this happens...

Listening to the music in the film again I'm actually hearing some subtle synth in some of the Island- search cues similar to what he employed in The Black Hole.
This would sound awesome with a good mix!

Wow...

Very impressive, Stephen. Thank you for the good news : can't wait to hear a complete and [remastered ?] release.

What are your guesses ? La-la-land ? Intrada ?

Cheers, as you're used to say...

Perhaps it is imminent. That could be why Film Score is selling this CD at $4.95. Just a thought.

You are not the first one to have come up with that thought.

Stephen,
I'm pretty sure that lead in to Maybe My Luck Has Changed comes from Blackout In New York/How About Buying Me A Drink and was tracked in. I replicated it in audition and it sounds cool. smile

Many thanks for that Woollers. Really has whetted the appettite if an expanded release is on the waywink
I still have the old MASK CD, haven't listened to it since I got the FSM. So I decided to give it a spin last night to hear what it was like again. Bloody hell, it really is atrocious, almost unlistenable. I didn't remember it being even that Bad!!

The organ is completely buried in the current mix.

I doubt anyone would risk making the mix too different to what we know but I absolutely agree the inclusion of an organ adds something really cool to the score.

If ... if ... an expanded KONG really is coming, it may at least include the "Cathedral Organ" cue which, as you know, is basically that organ line played solo.

Cheers

Yeah, one of the key recurring ideas in the score is that slow, groaning ostinato that accompanies much of the search and chase action on the island. Like you, I definitely hear synthesizer augmentation to give it a slightly ... 'unnatural' sound.

Thanks for all the comments folks. And thanks for the OBF, Bruce -- I'm honoured!

Cheers

I've ripped music from DVDs (replacing VHS tapes and TV broadcasts) ... and always thought myself something of a fanatic when it comes to my love of Mr. Barry's music. But a detailed exercise like this puts my efforts in the shade.

Well done; and here's hoping we get the chance to hear a high-quality release of the material. This was a film I went to see on release just because of John Barry's music and I wasn't disappointed. The album has been a firm (if not top) favourite (from that mid-70's era) ever since.
