All the things that was wrong with TV years ago when it was smaller and free in time has just become the same problems cable TV has suffered from and always will, too much trite, too much commercials too much repeats, they are trying to tell us how to live our prescious leisure time, not me, i tell myself how to live my limited leisure time, give me millions of choices and i will choose, THE COMPUTER AND ME., THAT'S IT , Man what did these bums do to me years ago.

Cable only serves three purposes for me: Live sports broadcasts, live news coverage, and occasionally the Weather Channel. The rest of my time, I just indulge with my DVD library of vintage material that lets me program my own schedule of what I want, when I want it. No commercials (unless it's a vintage TV recording), no crunched credits, just good stuff!

I'd love to switch to some form of streaming only, but here it's all part and parcel with cable. But then again, streaming has a ways to go before it becomes an entertainment venue in it's own right. No news, very little current programming. Particularly on Netflix, it seems there are hardly any classic films (of any era), availability fluctuates on any given day, and I've watched several titles halfway through only to have a glitch in the video file preventing me from watching the rest of the film. I'm just waiting for NF to start adding commercials to the middle of movies. smile

Canceled my cable last week. $77.00 a month-savings; that's $924.00 a year.

Thumbs up, Mr. P! That's $924 of soundtracks you can add to your collection.

I still don't have--and don't WANT--cable, satellite, or the free antenna thing so I am one of the five million:

I've read that Verizon FiOS now has a "pay what you watch" plan. Could this be a step in the right direction?

I truly believe 98% of people who have cable don't really like it, but for many they are too lazy to use their computer as an alternated . That's people for you.

Now it's 27 months since I canceled cable and it's more like $2079.00 in savings.

Cable bad. Do yourselves a HUGE financial favor and cancel it...now.

Wasn't great quality but I watched Mighty Python and the Holy Grail on YouTube for free. Well obviously I pay for my internet service. Only reason I keep cable is because I watch a lot of sports. It's a curse I tell ya.

I must have TCM to keep me sane.

It would indeed be great to be able to choose channels a la carte.

Then, you'd be wrong wink

How is it "lazy" to refuse to watch a widescreen high definition movie on a small computer screen? I hate trying to watch a movie on an airplane seat monitor, too.

One girl who works for me watches movies and TV on her freaking cell phone. Some people have no standards razz

I know my cable costs are too high but streaming movies/ TV has never been attractive for me and has never been a good experience.

Which is no different than illegally downloading movies, since 90 percent of what is on YouTube is not with the approval of the copyright holder(s).

Well of course that open's a Pandora' box which has been discussed many times here in the past, but not recently for our new members. Let me say this. You have a police department in New York. For years when not crossing the street at exactly the intersection, I have witness many times a cop come over and give the pedestrian a ticket, oh yes, for sure years ago. A person not even a car, double parking which makes a bit more sense. There paying these policeman a salary with this activity while, a big city has, street crime, murder, robbery, rape, organized crime, abortion clinics, serial killers , domestic violence etc etc etc,. Now I am like any good citizen will say we all can make our lives better but as I have said to many a cop over the years, YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING.So what is being said here, Many decent members of our society, fans, we are supposed to wait when the greedy multi billionaires running gigantic corporations will if ever decide to release a film you love [most won't] in proper manner. When , in reality, not hurting anyone, a fan decides to put it on for a small amount of fans to watch. Of course one must realize if it is a film the major corporations have no interest in releasing in the near future, they are not really losing any money. OK, JOHN DOE might in a long shot would have bought the film 10 years from now, if alive, when and if they ever do release the film. There WAS A GREAT LINE IN THE END OF THE MOVIE LIPSTICK WHEN Anne Bancroft says in a courtroom, sometimes how civilization handle a crime can be worst then the crime itself. A dollar here and there, get that fan not the killer, wonderful, wonderful.TIME IS MORAL, good and evil comes in many ways.

I like to watch films in my home theatre in the highest definition possible. I've seen a few movies on YouTube and I wasn't impressed. With the possible exception of HDNet Movies when they show older films, TCM's presentations of classic films are the best available.

So I was going to cancel my cable service after only having it for nine months. Of course they tried their best to talk me out of it, like my internet subscription would double if I axe service from my package. They said they could cancel my HBO service and save me $20 dollars a month. I said no one ever told me I had HBO! The customer service person said, oh yeah you did! But its not on my itemized bill. So WTF?

We've been cable-free for about 9 years. But two months ago my wife signed up, because it was cheaper than the internet-only package. I wonder if they're finally feeling pressure?

But after buying the extra cables and connectors they don't send, we realized there still wasn't anything good to watch, and we haven't used it since.

(Oh and they're being sneaky... They added a fee for DVR service, which wasn't advertised, and said that all their boxes include a DVR and it can't be declined. Then they sent us a new wireless router and told us the cheaper one we've been using for two months is incompatible with our plan...)

I wanted to drop cable but then my internet bill would double to $80 dollars a month. So in the end I'm spending maybe $60 dollars more for cable and a landline I don't want or need. And yes, they charge monthly fees for everything DVR, router, you name it. (plus taxes) They even dropped basic cable service. You have to buy digital service and pay for a DVR in order to get a reception now. And I believe I'm still in a "promotional" plan. So I expect once my year is up they will raise my rates. I'll cancel service for sure when that happens. Its a racket.
