By the way, on Chris Young's official site, a short interview with Chris and a short behind the scenes look at the scoring can be found:

http://officialchristopheryoung.com/category/news/

And a few samples of the music:

http://officialchristopheryoung.com/music/

I have to say that those samples sound incredible. Glad to see that there will be a CD release, though that's primarily because of the songs.

I'm especially excited about this film as it's Bruce "Withnail & I"s first directorial outing since JENNIFER 8 almost 20 years ago.

Agreed! I only hope it's more Withnail and Advertising than Jennifer 8. Also can't wait for Young's score.

DRIVE... and this... and IN TIME...

All three recent Lakeshore releases, with CD releases a month after the download, which is timed to the theatrical release. I swear they must just be trying to kill physical CD sales because there's a higher profit margin on downloads. I mean I guess I should at least be grateful there's a CD at all, but this is really testing the meaning of "at least".

I find it hard to believe all three releases could have had artwork issues that held up the making of the physical CDs.

It reminds me of when SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE came out for download only, then a CD came out about two months later. In that case, having already bought the download, I waited until I could find the CD used at Amoeba, so at least the record label wouldn't get my money twice.

And then there was CONTAGION, where Amazon had the score only available for download the week before the film came out, then suddenly a CD materialized the following week. I was so pissed in that case that I called Amazon's 800 number and got them to give me a store credit for the amount I spent on the download towards the purchase of the CD.

The only plus here is that we know the CD will be coming out, but having to wait a month, by which point I'll have half-forgotten the score and film, is silly.

I'd have bought the DRIVE CD if it had come out when the film did, I don't think I will now.

Yes you do! ADVERTISING is not on WITHNAIL's level but it's still awesome. JENNIFER 8, on the other hand is... merely "worth watching".

I saw and enjoyed The Rum Diary, a film that, despite its imperfections, will warrant subsequent viewings. I don't remember much about the score at all, but I almost never do these days. However, if Young's music can make even one of you more Hunteresque (minus the alcoholism, depression, and firearm suicide), then that's just fine with me.

Saw this posted on the facebook page of Lakeshore Records:

Rum Diary Soundtrack Part 2 is coming later this month! Stay tuned for details on "The Rum Diary - More Music from the Motion Picture"!

I suspect this second release will be a song release? As I haven't received the Young score yet, I'm not sure if there is any music left to put on volume 2.

Anyone catch CY's nod to Neal Hefti on the "white-covered" record? Pretty slick CY is, and what a great take.

Here is the hook: CY is from Red Bank, NJ. Count Basie was from Red Bank, NJ also. And Hefti did the compositions, charts and arrangements for Basie's Band (e.g., Atomic Basie). So, there ya go.

Pretty cool, huh?
