This movie is wonderful and has a terrific score by Grusin. The Main Theme is something I still can't fully understand, it's just gorgeous. The Piano Version in his Now Playing is one the most hauntingly beautiful themes I've ever heard.

I'm just wondering if there are any plans to release the complete score without dialogue. The main problem here is the dialogue and I can't understand why it hasn't been released without it before. Legal issues?

Please we need this music without interruption.

That main theme is so calm and comfortable, relaxing with a capital R, one of Grusin's best, up there with Heart is a lonely hunter-68

Quite likely. The soundtrack LP was on MCA records (now Universal Music Group). The film itself was distributed in the U.S. by Universal, but it was co-produced by ITC (along with Jane Fonda's company, IPC), whose assets are not owned by Universal.

Still waiting for this. Was just now playing the title theme, such a joy.

If this would see the light of day, chances are it would need to be coupled with another score as if you take out the dialogue which I'm all for, the album would be very short. I'd say this is one of my few holy grails to get on CD someday.

Casting my vote for this as well... Grusin is a national treasure, and this is one of his very best.

Grusin re-recorded two pieces of the score for one of his albums. I could never understand why he didn't re-record a longer suite of the whole score, when it was becoming more and more apparent that there would never be a CD release of the original album.

I think the hold up might be getting the rights from not just MCA but Grusin's GRP label which I think also was involved.

If you were going to pair this with another Universal/Grusin score, why not the original tracks for THE MILAGRO BEANFIELD WAR?

Now that's a great idea! Two Oscar nominated Grusin scores (one winning) on a single release...sure to be a "must-have" for film music fans.

I have also been looking for this for years, but happen to adore the dialog tracks from the film with mainly Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and Jane Fonda. But I see that somewhere along the line I've downloaded an "On Golden Pond/The Champ" collection (maybe from iTunes) that includes 12 tracks from "On Golden Pond," which is essentially the entire soundtrack, but sadly bereft of the dialog cues. So it remains on our wish list, and I was thinking about this while playing a lot of Dave Grusin music today. And, interestingly, I had forgotten that the cover of the LP reads "MUSIC AND ORIGINAL DIALOG FROM THE MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK."

Although I've been searching forever for this soundtrack with the dialog tracks, somewhere along the line I have downloaded a recording of Grusin's 2 scores for "On Golden Pond" and "The Champ," with 10 cues from "Pond," none with a word of dialog, for a total of over 25 minutes. (Update: Playing those cues just now, I realized they came from an LP, and while I'm happy to have them in my iTunes, I'm still looking for this soundtrack on CD!)

Follow-Up: I just found the original soundtrack with the dialog, which I was able to download in less than a minute, which has been a Holy Grail for me for years. I would have preferred it on CD, but this is a close 2nd best, although it does come from LP. Beggars can't be choosers.

It´s not on iTunes. Where did you find it, if I may ask.

I left it up for 30 or 40 minutes but have taken it down. If you have a moment, you can email me at ronhardcastle@sbcglobal.net and I'll tell you how you can get it too.

Looks like Varese is doing a straight reissue of the album on CD. Too bad it's going to have the dialog and doesn't appear to have those track sans dialog which would make it really worth having.

I suspect they can't change the master, some of those old agreements were very specific about not being able to change or add to the existing master.

Even with the dialogue on some of the tracks, there is a lot of great music that is in the open.
