I have recently had problems with cds, books etc. being lost in the mail. I usually have no problems with buying and selling through First Class mail. I have not received several items way past their due date for arrival. Media Mail has been a problem from time to time, but now it's gotten worse! When First Class became a problem, that was too much. My advice, try to buy and sell using Delivery Confirmation whenever possible. Perhaps this warning will spare people on this board losses due to the USPS system. All my life I praised the Post Office for the fine job they did, but now?

I agree. This year, I've had 3 items disappear in the mail. Two packages and a game from Gamefly. Also, their tracking system is absolutely horrible. Totally broken. They haven't done a good job recently of proving that they WANT to stay in business.

Next time the fire department is able to put out a fire in your neighborhood or you're able to travel to your destination using a highway keep that in mind.

Well, I've actually had worse experiences with UPS/FedEx in terms of losing the package then USPS. Just like anything - sometimes the system fails.

Only had one lost package coming or going from the USPO in my entire life. So I can't complain.

Let's just hope as the post office will be cutting back more and more in the future, those who work there will not become more inept on their jobs. I have not notice much change myself, i used the post office alot for my charity business.

Let's just hope the ridiculous nonsense wherein the post office has to pay a generation or three into the future is undone so it can continue functioning well as it has for many many years!

Anyway, I'm in the very few problems camp myself. The only packages I can recall ever not arriving were from carriers other than USPS, and if any letters or bills have ever been lost by USPS, they're nothing that's ever been noticed missing!

No problems with them, until today! So it snowed yesterday and today where I live. I checked the mail yesterday, nothing in the mail box. Today I saw the mail carrier pass are cluster of mail boxes for my neighbors and myself. So I went outside and ran after the mail carrier. I asked why she didn't stop, she said there was too much snow by the mailbox, I understand that, but yesterday they could have left a note or something for the future. But still that's not what I'm mad about. I asked if she could give me my mail she said no and drove off right away nearly driving over my foot in the process.

That's too bad, but maybe she'll get you next time. I had an alcoholic housemate who was apparently well compensated for a leg injury committed by a USPS truck. The outcome suited his lifestyle perfectly.

I had two packages lost in the same week last year. Never had a problem before that. Hopefully the issue doesn't persist. I've got a CD projected to arrive tomorrow.

I understand your frustration and I would roll my eyes at the same response too. But I think the law is very strict on this. They are only allowed to deliver the mail to your mail box. They can hand you your mail if your standing right next to your mailbox and you came from that house, otherwise they cannot give it to you.

I understand that, but the thing I'm most mad about was the way she handled the situation, and her unprofessionalism and attitude.

Totally agree with you there. They shouldn't have an attitude.

By the way, tracking and delivery confirmation won't help if the USPS is at fault. Check out the horror story this guy tells:

Since we're talking horror stories. I once ordered a whole bunch of figurines from an Ebay seller. He insured the package. It was a $120 purchase on my part.

A third of the figurines were shattered when I opened the package. When I went to claim it at the Post Office they said I would have to leave them the whole package, and they would inspect it and let me know if they would honor the insurance.

They called me the next day and said they wouldn't honor the insurance. On top of that they didn't offer to give the package back. I had to go to the post office and request they give it back to me. For all I know someone at the Post Office would've kept the figurines and glue them back together!

my sister in-law ordered some baby chickens for her small farm.

the hatchery was only 50 miles from her house.

by the time the chicks showed up at her farm.
they had traveled over 500 miles and took two weeks on the road.
