I actually thought Jay Ferguson scored this 1986 film, but now it appears that he only wrote a couple of songs for this movie.
Joel Goldsmith wrote the score, as a 29-year old. And what a score, clearly inspired by Tangerine Dream and Harold Faltermeyer. The 2 score-tracks are among the best things I have heard in a while, I can't believe no one has ever talked about this score on this forum! I didn't even know there was a soundtrack album.
Does anyone have this soundtrack? Was it out on CD, or LP only?
Did Goldsmith write anything else in this style?

Do you have a track list from the CDR?
You say Crystal Heart is not his best work, but did he write anything else in this "vein"? I'm not particularly interested in pure orchestral stuff, if he did any of that.

My hopes weren't exactly high after this announcement, but the music still manages to fall short.

Joel had his own record company but now when he`s gone I guess it is up to Ford A. Thaxton and his BSX to continue releasing his work but I can be wrong.
When it comes to JG JR`s best scores that are unreleased then personally I would rather see releases of such scores as Rattled, Joshua Tree, Man`s Best Friend, The Man With Two Brains and even Watchers. But if Crystal Heart would be released I certainly would buy it, that`s for sure.
Watchers opening/closing sounded like metallic Brad Fiedel-stuff. Have you heard/seen No Safe Haven (1987)?

Joshua Tree and Watchers, hell even Maniac Cop 3 - Badge of Silence would be awesome to see released, but it seems that Joel is forgotten by the labels...
(Mans best friend is out there in the jungle so that is not first priority but a great score too)
Watchers is i.m.o very Ramboesque sounding and some parts of it sounds like taken from father Jerrys library, a great score

While we're on the subject of Joel's work, any plans to release any of his Stargate work? Especially SGU which was an intriguing, different but interesting set of his work

So I finally saw the complete film on youtube. Not too bad actually, I don't see why this couldn't have become a bigger hit in the 80s than it was.
I don't think there is enough score material in the film for a full score album, but as long as this has only seen an LP release I would have loved to see a CD release of the soundtrack, featuring all the score plus songs. Some very nice variations of the main theme, and the "Breaking Free" scene was very effective:
