I'm assuming this album has been a steady seller over 30 years and this might be blocking an extended release that includes the film cues.....
Either that or the tapes are lost or unusable. That seems to be a common problem with Moroder recordings (case in point modern cd remasters of the album E=MC2 which are apparently all needledrops).
Oh yeah, I think it's about time for original film tracks releases for both Midnight Express and Scarface. I'd also love to see a complete/remastered release of Barry DeVorzon's instrumental underscore to The Warriors. Yet another DeVorzon score I'd like to see on CD is Looker. The synth-work for the latter score was done by Michael Boddicker.
Not only do I agree with all of this, I would like to introduce to you a completely overlooked score from DeVorzon that must be released:
'
Stick is actually one of my holy grails. I love that Fairlight CMI breathy lead sound that you could find on lots of pop tunes in the day (Art of Noise capitalized on it especially using Trevor Horn's Fairlight)
Those DX7 funky bass lines bring me back to those days. Would still love to hear this on CD/Digital download one day.
Just spinning the OST again and while it's clean and nice, the original score as Sarge indicated in his OP is more atmospheric. The "Chase" cue in the movie is more compelling and sounds like Moroder used more 16th beat delay on that bass line which amps up the kinetic element of that track.
Curious whether the original stems are just gone or what but an original score release of this work by Moroder is long overdue.
But I agree with Bond1965- while it was one of the best of 1978, Superman was much more developed, and crucial to its film. Midnight Express does a wonderful job of creating an atmosphere and a sound that no one will ever forget but take it away and the film is still pretty damn good. Superman needs Williams' score.
