Doesn't seem there ever was a soundtrack recording or release for the film. Anyone know why? Brilliant, score, kind of a predecessor to "3 Women" which should ALSO be released! Hmm....suggestions!

I agree this score by Toshiro Mayuzumi is outstanding as it is offbeat.

Film buffs and contemporary music connoiseurs are likely to appreciate the score for "Reflections In A Golden Eye", but the film itself does not have a great enough reputation to afford it a high profile in posterity (the recent FSM voters' poll on the scores from Elizabeth Taylor movies did not receive many votes for "Reflections In A Golden Eye").

Since this film's credits list Marcus Dods as the conductor, one may assume the recording sessions were done in England (Dods was the regular conductor for Richard Rodney Bennett).
If this is so, the original U.K. sound recordings most likely do not survive.

Anybody out there know for certain ... ? ...

A title like this deserves a much better movie.

Oh dear! I hope that's not the case. I hadn't any idea that Dods was the conductor on that one. Though the film is not well known or appreciated, the score SHOULD be! What an amazing piece of work! Would the composer himself have had any copies or master tapes?

I saw Reflections in a Golden Eye on its initial release (no golden hued tones either and I prefer the untinted version) and have been a fan of it ever since - I dont understand all the negative feelings for it - it is quite faithful to Carson McCullers novel - it is well directed , acted , and scored -- some consider it a classic. It was certainly ahead of its time in its subject matter and the adult treatment Huston gave it

I remember liking the score very much and hoping Mayazumi's score would be released on disc but alas it never appeared -- a definite buy if WB would release this gem .

I totally agree with the last post... this was a film definetly before its time. it is also of its time with the over all uncomfortable reception . . . the whole thing kind of forlorn comment.

For those of us who grew up in this time, we full well appreciated the depictions of glorious homoerotic desire and longing, obsession and frustration. Hard-edged and beautiful, this film was in a class by itself and thanks to John Houston, lingers on the memory.

Because it is currently abailable in the Brando "set" (I think, and most of the other films I already have) I've not gotten this on DVD. It should have a release of its own, perhaps with the Mayuzumi score as an extra.

The film is coming in a French Bluray (and possible in the US afterwards):

maybe it's time for a release of this wonderful soundtrack?
