(Sadly, the narrator isn't William McCrum, but rather that annoying woman I've seen on QI on occasion).

Horses for courses. When have I ever wanted to see Norwegians murdered?

I don't think she's ever been on QI. You're thinking of Jo Brand. This is film buff MARIELLA FROSTRUP, who used to present movie shows, and is an actress and a literary critic. Check her out, she's nice on many planes, plus she was born in Norway.

Joan: Your thesis statement-style thank you is appreciated. wink Glad you enjoyed the doc enough to watch it twice. I've done the same with many a documentary. It's always something worth doing when there's a paucity of good material on a subject "out there."

William: It sure sounded like Jo Brand! embarrassment I was wndering how she would have gotten that narrator's gig! Just when I thought I was thinking I was becoming familiar with UK TV personalities...I don't even know the Amercan ones...

Nice use of "A Forest", the song by The Cure which opens the documentary.

Italian Noir!

(I sense thread abandonment here)

This documentary wasn’t a thread killer for me. I found Italian Noir very interesting. I think part of the problem may be that a lot of the Italian novels may not always be translated into English. Scandinavian books may get more translations from American publishers.

It was interesting to note that once again Italian Noir is influenced by history, especially Fascism. Certainly the Mafia also plays a part.

Yep, I just may have to check out THE GIRL WITH THE CRYSTAL EYES about a female vigilante. wink

I have read one Italian author named Donato Carrisi. THE WHISPERER is probably the best serial killer mystery I’ve ever read. It was intricate with tons of twists and turns. I also read his novel THE GIRLS OF ROME, which was very good. I’ll soon check to see if his other novels have been translated.

Thanks, Jim, for your continue enlightenment!

A Scandinavian Crime Fiction blog:

"This blog is part of a project to document and celebrate the amazing amount of crime fiction coming from the Scandinavian countries and being translated into English."

That is a great blog. I've actually recently read two of the books he reviewed. I'll be checking it out in the future. Thanks for the reference, Jim.
