I'm surprised that no-one has, so far, released any music written by Australian composer Douglas Gamley for a slew of memorable British horror and fantasy movies made in the 70s, notably:

And Now The Screaming Starts
Vault of Horror
The Beast Must Die
From Beyond The Grave
The Land That Time Forgot
Madhouse

and

The Monster Club

Does anyone know if the music from any of these films has survived, or if there might be any plans to release it?

Was there not something about Mr Gamley not wanting his stuff released? I thought I read that a long time ago as I also wondered why none of his stuff has ever appeared.

I too remember something about Gamley not being keen on releases. A pity because some of his works were rather good. They certainly gave Amicus/AI a signature sound distinct from Hammer's. Livelier and not as morbid. Fun, actually!

I particularly like Gamley's brass writing - those incredibly tight trumpets (fractionally detuned?). Instantly recognisable.

Land That Time Forgot, Madhouse and the funky Beast Must Die scores are particularly nice. I'd buy 'em in a blink.

This is something I will never understand. If a composer doesn't want
his scores released, that must mean he doesn't want anyone to hear them.
Therefore, why in the world did they become composers in the first place?
Besides, it's not the composer's decision whether or not their film scores
get released. It's the studio that owns them.

Sorry, I'm not able to answer questions about the survival of Gamley's score master tapes or any label's plans; however, since Silva Screen Records had gotten a hold of Malcolm Lockyer's music for the Amicus production of DR. WHO AND THE DALEKS and released this on CD, then there's hope that other Amicus music still exists.

Interestingly, Douglas Gamley was involved in scoring the earliest horror production by Max Rosenberg & Milton Subotsky before they even created Amicus - THE CITY OF THE DEAD (aka HORROR HOTEL) from 1960.

By 1965, Amicus was formed, and one of their specialties was the omnibus horror movie.
At this time in the '60s, Elisabeth Lutyens served as in-house composer for Amicus, and it wasn't until the early 1970s that Douglas Gamley became the regular Amicus composer.

Starting in 1972 with TALES FROM THE CRYPT and ASYLUM (2 titles that weren't mentioned above), Gamley then went onto VAULT OF HORROR and the others cited.

I rather like ...AND NOW THE SCREAMING STARTS the most, and would naturally wish this one to be released onto disc.

I don't know why Mr. Gamley didn't want these scores of his to be released as albums (after all, his score for the 1958 ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER PLACE was issued on LP).
To be honest, though, his early '70s scores were quite referential to standard classical warhorses, such as Bach's Toccata and Fugue for Organ (quoted in TALES FROM THE CRYPT rather noticeably) or yet another rendition of the Dies Irae in his FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE.

Maybe this could be a reason?

LAND THAT TIME FORGOT has been a holy grail for me ever since the film came out. Talk about a distinctive and original score - I can't imagine another dinosaur movie score that sounds like it. It has moments of sheer beauty that Elgar or Finzi would have been proud of. And the Main Title and the fiery finale -- gawd, what great stuff!

I can happily report that the MONSTER CLUB DVD's special features is a selection of tracks from each of the film's segments. Good stuff!

After the original TRON came out in 82, I too became quite fond of Mr. Gamley's horror and fantasy scores. He conducted the London Philharmonic for the TRON score (of course it was tweaked electronically, but the energy of the orchestra still comes through). I would gladly welcome anything he has done released... Bring it on...

With respect, since Mr Gamley is no longer alive, would his estate still be honouring his alleged wishes not to release his scores?

Or, as mentioned above, does the studio who owns the rights have the final say in the matter?

I'd dearly love a release of The Land That Time Forgot as well.

You mean, there's another release of this film beyond the blu already available?

Oh, at least in Europe there is a new blu ray release in April: https://www.amazon.de/Caprona-Das-vergessene-Land-Blu-ray/dp/B079JGMN23/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_img_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=G6FBWSSRVAT5S9D7MVD5

In any event, I would love to get Gamley´s score in pristine quality by Intrada or LLL.
