This is one those"coulda-been great" films for me. I enjoyed it tremendously but.... There is a real laziness in the writing especially the characters. Freida pinto is a totally unneccary character. She seems to be there just 'cause she is so pretty. ALL the supporting characters are one -dimensional archetypes: - the greedy cproporate boss - the sadistic game keeper etc James Franco brought a lot of humanity to the role and the Serkis/Casaer work is great. What really made the film for me was the spectacular conclusion on the GG Bridge. b+ for the film b- for the score bruce

I have to eat crow. When the film was released I liked it - but the score was disappointing to me. Now, years later, I gave it another chance - and adore it. Another victim of wrong expectations and throwing a childish hissy fit over not getting what I wanted. In fact, Doyle really hits this one out of the park. Fantastic score. Sorry, Mr. Doyle. I was wrong. Here´s to you scoring the next one, too.

Oh, yes - Giacchino and Matt Reeves work together well. And since I´m a Giacchino fan, too, I´m looking forward to this new score as well. Maybe he will pull off such greatness like his "John Carter"-score, another throwback to a legendary era, in which the "Planet of the Apes"-movies were created?
