FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MOVIESCORE MEDIA RELEASES ORCHESTRAL MOTION PICTURE SCORE FOR THE LION OF JUDAH

Greg Sims Composed the Score for the First Ever 3D Animated, Faith-Based Movie

(May 31, 2011- New York, NY) – Moviescore Media (www.moviescoremedia.com) is proud to announce the release of The Lion of Judah – Original Motion Picture Score composed by Greg Sims (Tugger: The Jeep 4x4 Who Wanted to Fly). The film is the first-ever 3D animated, family-friendly, faith-based movie. The lush orchestral score was performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic.

“My philosophy,” said Sims, “is that when movies are computer generated – especially films that are animated or laden with special effects—using a live orchestra adds a human element back to the equation.”

Sims developed four main themes for the score. He described, “Two worked in minor keys as well as major keys, and I used both variations throughout. Each action sequence has dozens of hit points to which I carefully synched the score. Sometimes when there is a lot going on in a scene, the music can draw attention to things the listener might otherwise miss.”

He continued, “Probably the biggest challenge was making the score feel seamless and not contrived in spite of numerous sudden mood changes.”

Greg Sims is an award-winning composer, arranger, orchestrator and producer of music for film, television and album projects. Throughout his career he has been able to draw from his classical and jazz training as well as his experience in creating commercial music to produce a wide range of memorable work.

Greg completed a Bachelor of Music at the University of Tennessee under the tutelage of Jerry Coker. Sims and his wife Annie moved to Orlando to continue their careers. There, he served as arranger-in-residence for the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 1992, Mike Redman launched PowerHouse Music, a production music library. Sims signed on as a staff writer, eventually becoming a partner in the company. He and Redman founded MyMusicSource, Inc., an innovative online music licensing company in 2006.

That same year, Greg developed a relationship with Parker Williams, the music director for the Oprah Winfrey Show, and began composing cues regularly for the show. After composing and producing over 100 tracks for Harpo, its production company, Sims began his feature film career for with Tugger: The Jeep 4x4 Who Wanted to Fly.

When Judah the Lamb is taken by the townspeople to become a sacrifice, his six new friends from a Bethlehem stable have to go to his rescue! An incredible adventure follows, full of danger, drama and heroes.
Judah’s new friends, led by Slink the clever mouse (Ernest Borgnine) and Esmay the motherly cow (Sandy Patti), meet up with Jack (Scott Eastwood), a teen-aged donkey with an attitude! Jack is less than happy to be part of the crew, but when the furry and feathered band of stable animals get separated and need saving, it’s Jack who rushes to their rescue.
Even the best efforts of Jack and the rest of the stable friends are not enough to save Judah. In this incredible tale of adventure and compassion, it takes the greatest hero of all, The King, to save Judah… and all the other animals, too!
Animated Family Films presents The Lion of Judah in theaters on June 3. The Lion of Judah – Original Motion Picture Score from Moviescore Media will be available digitally and in stores on May 31, 2011.

Just picked this up on iTunes. Pretty decent orchestral craftsmanship, the main title is nice and dramatic and you wouldn't think it was written for an animated kid's (ahem, Propaganda) film.

There are numerous comedy/animation concessions thereafter, which of course become very tiresome very quickly. Kinda comes across, ultimately, as a decent orchestral kid's effort of the Debney variety, with the occasional pitfalls you find with those scores as far as listenability goes.

It's not terribly memorable, truth be told, but I'd be interested to see what else this composer does going forward - Clearly knows his way around orchestral arrangements, but now let's see his aptitude for memorable tunes as well!
