Awesome! I'm totally using that!

Does A Girl Named Sooner pose a problem because it was (I think) a TV movie?

Yavar

Yeah, if I can't find a hi-res, or at least a very large picture, I abandon the project.

That makes sense. I wonder if anyone on the board might have some art they could post for it...or perhaps since it was based on a book there is some art for one of its editions that might suffice? Come to think of it the same technique might do for A Tree Grows in Brooklyn from the Fox Box as well (in lieu of any better material).

Here's the original in case it's helpful (sorry, just 600x600 from Intrada's site...seems to be the best available quality on the net since this isn't one of Joe Sikoryak's designs that he's uploaded to albumartexchange.com yet):

Yes, thank you! Only problem is you seem to have left an extra 'Leonard Rosenman' floating around the first...

Yavar

My bad, I'll fix that this evening, and post an update.

Hello Yavar,

Here is your correction:

Thank you!

And many thanks to Brad for his lovely Room 222...like A Girl Named Sooner that was another FSM TV title that didn't get a cover, and was sadly without identity in my iTunes cover flow. smile

In case anyone is brave enough to tackle them, here's a list of the other Goldsmith TV work that could really use its own unique cover, if possible with available materials:

Nick Quarry -- probably the least likely because it was an unaired pilot

Winter Kill -- the one on the FSM Goldsmith TV three-fer that Brad didn't do before so perhaps there aren't decent enough elements...

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea ("Jonah and the Whale") -- the GNP cover is general with the show title and both Goldsmith's and Paul Sawtell's names on it

The Loner -- included as a bonus by both FSM and LLL on their issues of the original film recording of Stagecoach, but neither of them tackled cover art for it

Crosscurrent -- short score included with The Last Run; got a text mention on the front cover but the flip side of the cover was devoted to Grusin's Scorpio Letters which filled out the disc

Anna and the King -- another one on the Fox Box (a complete gem so it'd be nice to give it a cover)

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn -- ditto but I've already mentioned this above

Then there's the earliest released stuff from Prometheus's "The Early Years, Vol. 1" (which had a cover simply featuring roles of music tapes):

The Lineup (episode "Wake Up to Terror")

Perry Mason ("The Case of the Blushing Pearls"; this one should be easy enough to do in a general way from DVD packaging at least)

Playhouse 90 ("A Marriage of Strangers" and "Tomorrow")

Not sure what could be done for the "CBS Production Library Music" though...perhaps just a custom cover featuring the CBS logo?

Just got my Tangerine Dream GTA 5 score CD and couldn't stand the cover so…

I've just discovered this long-running thread and am quite ashamed to admit it! Custom covers have long been in my favor, and I would really love to get some good photo-rendering and graphic design software on my fairly new MacBook Pro to get myself back into the game.

Vincent, I want to say this is an excellent cover. Eastgate's actual cover for this nice release is one of the worst things I have ever seen so I'm glad that a talented forum user like yourself came along to right the wrongs.

Now, Tangerine Dream's recent re-release/expansion of Sorcerer is also cool, and the album cover art is serviceable at best. But with the really evocative artwork from the new Blu Ray, I was curious if anyone could tackle making a new one for that release, including that title of "The Cinematographic Score" and the rest of the blah blah which Eastgate printed on the front? I hate to sound stupid if requests are generally frowned upon here but know that you would have an appreciative sort out there looking for better art direction.

Here's a little visual inspiration...

Those are fantastic, Brad. Always happy to get covers for FSM multi-score sets that didn't have artwork for them all...I'll be using those when I get around to importing my Raksin set.

Thanks, Yavar, glad you like them.

By the way, I've looking around for suitable materials to fulfill your Goldsmith requests, but I can't find a daggone thing. :-(

Yeah, I understand with the TV stuff it's really hard. Look at BSX's cover for David Lev -- they just had to come up with something; there was no existing art to work with.

I was really grateful recently for your Room 222 art -- never thought I'd get that!

I do wonder if for things based on novels (A Girl Named Sooner or A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, for instance) maybe there's some nice book art out there that could be adapted with a "Composed and Conducted by Jerry Goldsmith" credit in similar font or something...

I'd also like to say that I look forward to all of your cover posts -- not just Goldsmith ones! smile I'd love it if you tackled some of the early FSM titles that haven't been reissued by other labels yet (from the days when there were big Gold and Silver bars)...stuff like Newman's Prince of Foxes, Waxman's Prince Valiant, Goldsmith's 100 Rifles (no need to redo Stagecoach when it got that great Jim Titus LLL version!)

Are you kidding, Brad -- I DO! And not just to try and complete my Goldsmith cover flow. I actually enjoy this score a lot when I'm in the right goofy mood. "Anyone Got a Key" is sheer musical brilliance with all the little riffs and references packaged up in a big energetic way.

Any other things exclusive to the Varese Goldsmith Box that you might have up your sleeve?

I've said it before, but I am a fan of these, Brad. You're doing the Lord's work. A smaller-scale Lord. That maybe lives alone. Has a lot of friends, so it's not that he's alone-alone, that's not what I'm saying. Maybe you're just a guy wearing a robe, I don't know. But good work anyway...

I am always amazed and sometimes overwhelmed by the creativity some of you possess.

Does anyone ever do Blu-ray disc art?

I've been looking high and low for art to put in the blu ray cases I used to put my Marilyn BDs from the set issued a couple of years back. Crappy packaging from Fox for a rather decent collection of films.

If anyone knows of anything, please point me in the right direction.

I do Blu-Ray artwork, though I haven't done the Marilyn titles. There are a lot of websites for this stuff, including EuphoricFX (down at the moment), customaniacs.org, and hirescovers.net.

I only have experience with EuphoricFX, but all of these sites usually require new people to register and post on their message boards before being able to download. And some of them have restrictions on what you can download (X amount per day, or only work older than X, etc.)
