I think you'd have better luck asking if anyone has never listened to a soundtrack (on a stereo system with way too many arbitrary letters in its model name) while reclining in a futon next to an active fireplace and sipping on a pinot with one's drinkie pinkie erect (for elitism's sake).

The only time I did this for a movie, it was for the End Credits piece from Mummy Returns.

But I taped A LOT of PC video game music back in the days. I can't quite recall when that started, but I remember doing so for StarCraft 1 and Commandos 2 so vividly like it was yesterday. Good times.

Oh my. I first got a cassette recorder in 1973. I taped every theme I remotely liked. All off tv with the mike. First off, all the sf series and films, but also anything else I liked. Detective shows, allsorts.

Then there came the afternoon of Jason and the Argonauts, on a channel I could only get the sound of, and just SNOW for a picture. I made my poor parents sit through the whole thing so I could record the whole damn thing, while they ate their Sunday roast!

When I first got in touch other Doctor Who fans, I discovered their habit of audio recrding whole episodes, which I had never thought of doing. In the Uk we still to this day have a thriving radio channel doing drama. Who fans have a history of doing amateur audio dramas, which is why professional audio cds (featuring past regular Doctor Who casts) are a staple of fan bought merchandise.

But yep, I recorded LOADS of themes and bits of score directly from tv.

Gosh! I had a different name back in 2011..

I wish I had my main compilation of tv and film themes taken off tv via the mike. It had Star trek, Survivors, The Invisible Man (David McCallum), The Gemini Man pilot intro (great tune), Barbary Coast (with Bill Shatner and Doug McClure), the openings from Last Train From Gun Hill, White Heat and Mackenna's Gold and loads of others. Even a few tv commercials I liked at the time. The Bobby Goldsboro Coke ad and the Cresta bear ad to name two... Would certainly bring the memories back.

The funniest one though would be my cassette of the two Dr Who movies starring Peter Cushing. There I smuggled by recorder into my local flea pit that was having a Saturday evening revival of them in a double bill. It had the sound of the audience on it, complete with candy wrappers rustling, kids moaning and local lunk heads joining in the Daleks' "exterminate" chants.... Oh and me humming and foot tapping along to the theme for the Robomen march in the second movie..

I've not, not taped off the television. My sibling used to tick me off because he would make noise while crossing the room while I was trying to record something.

The music really came through back in the day vs. remastered viewing whether it be Netflix or DVD or the like. Dare say that if I hadn't heard all that glorious mono underscoring there would not be so much to celebrate.
