That question is difficult to answer. It depends on the copyright law and which country you apply it to. If you want more info, please email me:

There are endless debates about Tsunami. Here in Europe it is legal. You could bought it everywhere. Tsunami released Bernsteins "Four sons of Katie Elder", Goldsmith´"Sand Pebbles" ....In the US these releases are regarded as not legit

Legit or not legit, they're still bootlegs made from the LP without the owners permission.

Which reminds me since the Paramount vaults are now open is someone working on the original tracks of this that I would guess would blow these other releases away.

I don't think the re-recording is any worse than many of the other 1960s-era re-recordings that we have from United Artists and other labels.

Or a few other of Newman's scores for Paramount....

Such as THE COUNTERFEIT TRAITOR.

WONDERFUL score, like a little sister to THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK.

And, speaking of ANNE FRANK.....

?????????

Perhaps they should give their permission then. How old is the CD format now? Many soundtrack buyers have died of old age waiting in vain for a "legit" release.

Yeah, The Diary Of Anne Frank seems to be the one big Fox hold out from the 50's. No isolated music track on the Blu-ray either. I hope the music tapes are OK.

"Diary of Anne Frank" is available on Itunes. It's the 1959 soundtrack album.

Yes, also as Tsunami-Release. Would immediately buy an expanded release by Intrada or Varese, but in the meantime i have to refer on my old Tsunamis.

I don't think the download is kosher (I'm sure I can remember some chat about it here a few years ago). I had a listen on Amazon & it's mono & the publisher is Hallmark. If a CD is coming I think it will be from Intrada or Varese (who must have a new Club bunch coming in a couple of weeks).

As for Nevada Smith, I'd love to know what 60's stuff has survived at Paramount.

Warning - the mono lpof Diary of Anne frank has less music than the stereo version.

Same number of tracks, but several pieces are far shorter in the mono version.

Just watched the Widescreen DVD of 'Nevada Smith' on a good TV. Was really impressed with the look of it (only had a crappy VHS till recently). With both Hathaway and A. Newman recently off 'How the West Was Won', 'Nevada' has a BIG, outdoor look that is quite breathtaking (Lucien Ballard, DP). The film falters from trying to do too much and be too much - but the score is exquisite. Having had the album for years, I was amazed at how much more music is in the film. The score is quite understated for a big western and that is because much of the film is quite 'talkie' (again, for a western). This would make a fabulous soundtrack release and now that the Paramount vaults are open I'm hoping we see it soon.

I wish I knew just what Parmount still had from the 60's, but I suppose there's no good reason why they should tell us.

I suppose the album could turn up. The Dot album of Jarre's Villa Rides! was released this year.

Well, judging from the condition that "Robinson Crusoe On Mars" and "The Counterfeit Traitor" were in, I'd say the chances of "Nevada Smith" being in excellent shape is, well...excellent! I'm just guessing of course, but I'd love to see not only "Nevada Smith" from Paramount of that mid-to- late-60's period, but 3 other Westerns composed by Leith Stevens for that studio: "Night Of The Grizzly", "Chuka" and an excellent made-for-TV Western called "The Silent Gun".....all from Paramount in the late 60's.
