History is going to have to make up it's own mind about this one - I sure can't. ....beware, sequel on it's way.... It seems that most films I have watched this year have been absolute crap, MACHETE being the latest. Anything has to be better than that putrid piece of sh*t! Whoops! I forgot KICK-ASS. I don't remember anyone connected with the film claiming it would be shocking (I could be wrong though)...think this is more word of mouth from people walking out of casting sessions etc....also perhaps the claim that it is "100% Medically Accurate" (though, even I can see, it is nothing of the sort) made some people expect more than was finally given... (dammit - just read the WikiPedia entry for the movie, which mentions the word "Cronenbergian"...my credibility is disappearing fast! Well, he did poop in her mouth, and the lunacy of that scene momentarily had me laughing my ass off. The rest was just absurdly unfunny. But I'm sure it made a lot of money by the buzz it generated. It's a monumentally grotesque badtaste black comedy, and I'm looking forward to the sequel (which I believe - but don't know for sure - has six people in the 'pede). Yes, it's a deeply revolting idea, but it's done with a measure of imagination and style. However...we typically rent all our films from the Library (I don't own a Netflix account or anything like that) and it hasn't surfaced within the city/county databases yet. Might have to break-down and obtain via another means. Of course, I've heard mixed reviews, but I'll make a final decision after I view it. The lead male (the Doctor) is fairly convincing per what I've seen via the trailers. And if a scene becomes too unwatchable, I can always leave the room. E.g. I still do this, to this day, during some parts of Cannibal Holocaust and a few others. Nowhere near as gruesome as I'd expected. Very hokey, ropey film, almost a comedy in some parts. The acting is bad; the German doctors performance was laughable, the girls aren't likable, the Japanese guy is just bloody annoying.
