LA LIGNE DROITE

New score for Regis Wargnier's latest film, being released on CD by Colosseum on March 8:

http://www.colosseum.de/product_info.php/info/p2399_La-Ligne-Droite.html

Super excited to see a new Doyle CD after a three year absence.

Now I hope someone releases MAIN STREET, and the long-rumored MAN TO MAN.

I almost never have to pay for shipping from Germany. I usually order my Colosseum discs from www.grooves-inc.com since they offer free international shipping if you spend about $28.

They don't have a listing for Doyle's latest yet, but I'm sure they'll add it in the near future.

Excellent! Always happy to hear some new Doyle, and his collaboration with Régis Wargnier has been very fruitful, with the exception of Pars vite et reviens tard which has never yet much grabbed me. But Est - Ouest, Une femme française and Indochine -- delicious.

The artwork looks cool!

I'm confused by the Varese site, it says:

E.U. Release Date: 03/08/11
U.S. Itunes Release Date: 03/08/11
CDs will be available for sale on this site and pre-orders are now being accepted. CDs will ship on or after 3/8/11.

Does this mean that they'll be releasing the CD as a club-style release thru the website, as well as the iTunes release, and that I won't have to import it from Colosseum?

It certainly reads that way to me...

If so, that's great news!

Samples are at Varese.
Sounds fantastic, just like expected... like a follow-up to East-West with more focus on solo violin performed by Carmin Lauri.

Can't wait to hear that!

Soundclips are up at Varese:

It sounds very Philip Glass minimalist. I love it.

Same here. Even though I don't really like Philip Glass that much, I often like it when other composers imitate him (Elfman's 'Standard Operating Procedures' is a good example).

It is great that we will finally, after two years, be able to hear a new Patrick Doyle score. Even though this sounds like a more restrained effort, I really hope he lets it rip with THOR!!!

I just bought the iTunes release of this score following James Southall's glowing review on movie-wave. I'm not generally a big Patrick Doyle fan, but this is a stellar score. Highly, highly recommended!

Yes, this score is beautiful and delightful. I'm a big Doyle fan, and even so this took me by surprise. Great stuff.

Dying to hear this, but the physical CDs haven't arrived at Varese from Europe yet, so they said. I'm not complaining at all, I'm too thrilled they're making them available to look a gift horse in the mouth. They're saints, and whenever I get the CD is a treatsmile

Doyle always does his best work for Branagh and Wargnier, because they respect his contribution and give him minutes at a time to dominate the films. Other directors just ask him to do 30 second transitionals or underscore dialogue with some mood music.

I called Varese again today. They said these CDs got delayed and are coming in from Germany this week with the Largo Winch II CDs, which I also ordered.

Very excited to hear a new Doyle, and can't believe I'll get another in just a month.

Many thanks, again, to Varese for importing themsmile

Got this a couple of days ago, listening to it now for the second time.

Doyle-does-Philip-Glass/Michael-Nyman is something I never thought I'd hear, but I quite like it.

It's a small ensemble, I think he said 11 performers in that video interview that was posted. While it doesn't have the lush Doyle sound that I love, he still manages to make 11 sound like 3 times that many, while so many composers are able to make a full symphony orchestra sound like a single synthesizer.

Composed, Orchestrated and Conducted by Doyle -- it's true I don't think we've seen that before.

Been playing this endlessly since I got it. Doyle at his best! Wargnier always gives him freedom to be sweeping, thematic and emotional. Love this album.

This is really, really great.

Certainly it is Glass-y, but much less of a clone to my ears than Elfman's Standard Operating Procedure.

And it may be a small ensemble score but I don't find it a mellow one. It's pretty thrilling.
