I was interested in revisiting or discovering some of the Wendy Carlos back catalog for purchase, and it appears that all of the remastered East Side Digital releases of her work are unavailable. Whatever is listed online have inflated pricing. Although I haven't exhausted my online search for an answer to why this is the case, does anyone know the backstory on why it is difficult to find her cds?

I will look into it.

Your comment made me curious as to what the e-Bay values were (should I ever want to sell my stuff-which I don't!), so I took a look. But I got sidetracked and read some articles about how Serendip LLC had been doing some sort of crackdown on people selling WC albums on e-Bay and pulling videos from YouTube that mentioned her music or featured it in some way. Some pretty bizarre stuff there.

Maybe because they didn't photoshop the word "Walter" to Wendy's specifications.

The Wendy Carlos website mentions a few instances of people using her work through sampling or without permission which would obviously be distasteful to the creator of the work. I was not aware of the Serendip LLC connection until the reply in this thread mentioned it. In my case I'm interested in supporting the artist by making a purchase but nothing is available. It seems a shame that whoever is in the fan base that wants to be supportive and make purchases at this time cannot do that. I hope they get things figured out over there so that her music will be made available to the public at a fair price.

Her website hasn't been updated since I believe 2009.

I own every Wendy Carlos CD release except for the original Peter and the Wolf CD release. This was the only CD Wendy was not able to get re-issued and remastered w/ EastSide Digital.

I was always hoping Wendy could release the Peter and the Wolf album w/ the Weird Al Yankovic VoiceOver and without to be able to listen to the music by itself.

I hope that Wendy is in good health since her site hasn't been updated in a long time. She seems to be a kind and highly intelligent person, ESP if you read her liner notes etc she really is a genius. I believe she also helped on Apple programs years ago.

Not updated since 2009... wow.

I had sort of forgotten that she's 72 this year.

I can't help but get a bit of a "what might have been" feeling when reading this quote from the FAQ page (http://www.wendycarlos.com/faqs.html) on her site, which appeared to be written around 2002:

Q: Disney seems to be working on a TRON sequel. Have you been asked to compose the new score?

A: This has been confirmed from several sources, and certainly appears to be happening. We've heard that Steven Lisberger will again direct, and perhaps some of the other principals will be involved. It's early in the cycle of TRON v. 2.0 production as this is written, and there generally are changes to be expected in the volatile and expensive world of film. I don't have any idea what the response might be if you were to write them about this. So far we've not heard from anyone at all involved, and I don't really expect to. If we do I'll post some cheerful notice here. I simply assume they will go with one of the well known people in LA, that would be the "obvious" decision, wouldn't it? Too bad, because it could be fun, and lead to a unified new score containing familar elements, another blend of acoustic and electronic, not so likely if someone else does it. Short answer: "NO."

I actually rather liked Daft Punk's score for "Tron Legacy" and think it was a smart choice not to go with an established, mainstream composer, but I really would have loved to have heard what Carlos would have done had she had the chance to revisit it after all these years. Knowing that she apparently would have at least considered it, does make it feel more like a missed opportunity.

Thanks for starting this thread....I look at her website very often and am thinking I'd better hold tight to the few CDs I have.
No doubt she would be much opposed to her work being sold as compressed files, but there is now the possibility to sell uncompressed audio w/artwork.... and I can't help wonder why someone doesn't help her sell her work in this way ?

seeking some Wendy Carlos fans out there that for sure own authentic East Side Digital releases of any of her releases. I sold off my collection years ago and someone should have smacked me!

Needless to say having a hard time because several CDs I've purchased from a third party seller on amazon I knew instantly they were counterfeit. I wasn't 100% until I got a hold of a copy from another seller and per info I was locating on discos for mould Codes etc on the actual disc inner rings. the counterfeit Lost Scores discs were not as strong as a store bought disc, they feel flimsy and outer edge of discs felt rough. Sonic Seasonings Discs also felt cheap esp the 2 Disc case they came in really generic artwork ink seemed to get a more Redish push than the brown color.

Beauty In the Beast
If you can help please I would love to see some pics or if you want type it out if the MOULD codes and maybe pics of what the artwork looks like for I would be grateful. mould code I see is IFPI 8101
Does the INLAY of the Typography look like some of the print is missing with the W of Wendy and little of C of Carlos?

any info would be greatly appreciated. Just seem so paranoid over these discs.

Hope this also helps others searching for copies of these OOP discs.

There's a short segment on Carlos in this superb episode of 'Sound of Cinema:The Music That Made The Movies'
It starts at about 13:50......
