Interesting comparisons. I just got the score today. I missed it the first time, so I'm glad to replace the lossless download of it with a physical copy. I always like reading or meditating with this score playing, it creates the perfect mood and atmosphere for contemplation.
I have no need for the new release, but I downloaded the original a few months ago. Have been playing it LOTS since. In the same vein, you'd probably like Mansell's MOON and Isham's CRASH - also two of my most-played over the last year.
Nothing, I think. Just the sound that's been remastered. Then again, I have the old version and can't hear anything wrong with it.
Thanks. I also have the old version with the kissing couple on the cover. I prefer the new one, but I'm not going to purchase a new disc just to get a new cover, this would be nonsense.
Both movie and score are beautiful. Cliff did an awesome job.
I would really like to read someone's comparison of the original release with the new one. Please post one if you've heard both. I love the cover art of the La La Land release, though I would only buy it if it trumps the original release, sound quality-wise.
The soundtrack is identical in format (on disc), but I *do* detect a welcome clarity in the overall sound when comparing the two. Definitely discernible - a lack of sustained background noise (?) on the new release. Something you might not notice until you hear the new mastering. Worth re-purchasing.
I'm so pleased to see such love for this score. I dug it immediately when seeing the film years ago, and for a long time it seemed that nobody had taken notice or cared about it. Time has been on its side.
To Martinez newbies...don't deny yourself the pleasure of his score to Traffic (2000).
