What a charming and surprising release, however compromised by the ravages of the source material.

Also a nice break from the holy grails we're always going on about. Didn't see this coming. Well done.

I used to watch those LASSIE films as lot as a kid (or maybe it was a TV series?). Can't remember much of them now, nor the music. There have been several LASSIE films since, though, right? So does that make these the C-LASSIE-CS?

OK, I'll take my coat....

I appreciate the photo of the producers, but could we get a shot of a collie? smile I'll post one of my sister's collie if need be. My sister and I had a long chat with June Lockhart a few years ago about her experience on Lassie.

GO OUTSIDE TO YOUR DOGHOUSE RIGHT NOW, THOR, AND PLAY WITH YOUR CHEWY TOY!!! smile

Actually, I suspect that you saw the TV series from the 1950s as well as some of the later feature films made by the TV production company.

The original MGM films are, most certainly, classics of their type, and the first, LASSIE COME HOME, is a particularly lovely and sentimental film, especially for dog lovers. The Turner mini-series, MGM: WHEN THE LION ROARS, has a charming and touching section on the film and its surprise success and public reception at the time of its original release, as discussed by star Roddy McDowall and producer Sam Marx.

I've been calling for this set for years and Lukas had mentioned on the board in the past that many of the music elements had been lost, which is always a sad state of affairs.

Still.....seeing how he has accomplished the production of a large box like this with the various pieces and elements that still do exist and in surprisingly fine sound makes one truly believe it WAS a labor of love for him, and a real treasure for us.

I suspect this set will not be everyone's cup of tea---or bowl of Friskies---but to others like myself who are interested in Golden Age titles, it will fill yet another historical and musical niche in our collections and very worthy of inclusion.

Over many years now, I've had short random private conversations with Lukas about this material, and have had to hold my tongue publicly about his progress in putting it together. Now I can wag it!!! smile

Congratulations, Lukas and Company, on this very unusual and fine set.

Ordered this morning.

(.....and the added Bernstein is "gravy train" !!!)
