Just popped in season 1 of this show, which I remember very fondly from way back in the late 80s, when it was first shown in Germany. I don't remember very much, I must say, so I am very much looking forward to rewatch this again.

Oh yeah, totally. Simon and Simon was a stereotypical but fun private investigator buddy series that didn't take itself too seriously. As a matter of fact, it was filmed here in my hometown (San Diego, California). I didn't realize it was on the air for so long, though ('81-'89), sheesh!

And for a minute there, I was about to make mention of the duo's nerdy tech geek advisor and his orange robot friend, but then I realized that that was Riptide, another stereotypical but fun private investigator buddy series from the 80s. big grin

Oh Riptide.

Perry King remains the best Han Solo there ever was.

I was surprised to see that it lasted for that long too. I only thought maybe three season or so, but 9 is really long. And Jameson Parker (A.J. Simon) always reminded me of Robert Redford. wink

Just watching episode 2 right now, very laid back show. Like it.

And another thing: I don't know why this is, but I have the feeling that some of the 80s shows, especially from the early 80s have a special "shine" to them, meaning that the picture looks so "golden" sometimes. Sorry, can't explain it any better wink Maybe it is the age, or the film stock they used back then.

I haven't seen it in years, but it was one of my family's favorites at the time. Heck, my mom even named my younger brother after Jameson Parker's character. big grin I always remember a moment where they're involved in a bar brawl that breaks out into the whole bar. They get free and run outside, only to see the cops arriving, look at each other, then run back inside. LOL! It was a moment that made no sense, but just fit with the spirit of the fun the show always had.

You just don't get such fun, memorable TV themes (or shows) anymore.

I thought this was about Simon & Garfunkel. Never heard of the show, I'm afraid.

which one was Simon?

Rick (Gerald McRaney) and A.J. (Jameson Parker) were brothers. Simon was their last name. smile

By the way, does anyone know what A.J. stands for?

All I can come up with is Arnold Jackson.

LOL! In Simon & Simon, A.J.'s full name was Andrew Jackson Simon.

I remember Simon & Schuster, Simon & Garfunkel, Simon & Sons . . . but I've never even heard of Simon & Simon. Huh.

Somebody has uploaded tons of episodes on youtube, and I am currently enjoying them greatly. God, what a nostalgic feeling! Love the show!

Yes, at first I thought you were referring to when Garfunkel left and Paul's cousin Ziggy joined up and they became

SIMON AND SIMON.

All kidding aside, another formula action show from the overflowing fountain of Stephen J. Cannell, I believe?

I stand corrected. It was not a Cannell show. Silly me.

It did have a great Main Title theme though.

I worked on it as an extra a couple of times, back in my early L.A. days. Both Simon's were very nice and friendly as I remember.

I bought the entire series of Simon & Simon over the past couple of years. I hadn't seen the show since the mid '80s and completely ignored it when it aired on A&E in the afternoons during the late '90s and early 2000s.

I've always liked the show and more so because it was a part of the Magnum, P.I. universe. In fact, the Magnum-Simon crossover episode "Ki'i's Don't Lie" is the "epicenter" of my childhood TV viewing. Thursday night were the start of the weekend as far as I was concerned, as MPI-S&S led straight into Friday and then the weekend and getting lost in childhood adventuring imagination. wink

One thing I wish S&S had done was to bring back as a recurring character the great Joe Mantegna as Gonzo Journalist Henry Benson, an old pal of Rick's who only appeared in the episode "Emeralds are Not a Girl's Best Friend", the S&S half of the crossover story and who's clearly based on Hunter S. Thompson, right down to the Aloha shirt and Rolling Stone writing gig.
