Digi-packs were invented by the devil. They're awful. I can understand that some people like collecting them, but why are the considered "special" and forced upon those who don't like them. Jewel cases are the standard for CDs.... it's how they were first packaged, and there are many (such as me) who like standardisation, and want their shelves looking uniform. And as mentioned, they can be easily replaced.... what happens when a digi-pack breaks, and the item is out of print so you can't buy another one? And what about the evolution of digipacks into the ones that more resemble LP sleeves? Not even a plastic spindle to hold the CD secure, you have to slide them out of a pocket. And these ones often don't even come with a booklet, just the information written on the cardboard cover. How on earth is the DIY-er able to cut these to convert into a jewel case??? And don't get me started on them being good for the environment. If I'm paying my money, I want a product that's going to last forever. Environmental considerations should be for throwaway/disposable things (energy usage, carrier bags etc.), not things you will be keeping for a long time. And... and... and... it's easy to change a CD one-handed in the car whilst driving.... so digi-packs in that respect could be responsible for road deaths!
