Digi-packs were invented by the devil.

They're awful.

I can understand that some people like collecting them, but why are the considered "special" and forced upon those who don't like them.

Jewel cases are the standard for CDs.... it's how they were first packaged, and there are many (such as me) who like standardisation, and want their shelves looking uniform.

And as mentioned, they can be easily replaced.... what happens when a digi-pack breaks, and the item is out of print so you can't buy another one?

And what about the evolution of digipacks into the ones that more resemble LP sleeves? Not even a plastic spindle to hold the CD secure, you have to slide them out of a pocket. And these ones often don't even come with a booklet, just the information written on the cardboard cover. How on earth is the DIY-er able to cut these to convert into a jewel case???

And don't get me started on them being good for the environment. If I'm paying my money, I want a product that's going to last forever. Environmental considerations should be for throwaway/disposable things (energy usage, carrier bags etc.), not things you will be keeping for a long time.

And... and... and... it's easy to change a CD one-handed in the car whilst driving.... so digi-packs in that respect could be responsible for road deaths!

Do not like Digipaks myself do find the Japanese lp style more attractive especially as they take up less space but find them a bit to fiddly when you just want to get the cd out quickly especially if you just wanted to listen to one track.

The cardboard ones that have no plastic sleeve to protect the disc must be amongst the worst I have to cut up some of the flexi plastic cd holders sleeves that have the white soft felt like material and slide it into the cardboard inserts of ones that are needed. wink

The Jewel case is still the best there is they can easily be replaced, have a number of broken Digipaks where the disc just falls out of Grrr...

I prefer jewel case. The artwork is protected in the plastic case as well as the cd being in it's proper hub. Digipacks get damaged, wrinkled, bent, worn edges, bumped corners, water damage (more easily), fragile. Discs gets scratched, fingerprinted and unable to pull out of those stupid ones with the pockets.

Here is one example: The Lost World: Jurassic Park. After all of these years of sliding the disc in and out of the pocket...the disc has a lot of light scratch marks all over the play side (probably around the edge of the label side too). No thanks to the crappy digipack design. I can't wait to get a brand new original release copy so I can immediately place the disc in a slim jewel case like the slim case I put my cd that I have in now.

I have this release & there's no damage to my pocket, slip case, I use a weenie plastic bag that stops any serrating, digi-packs are fine you go that bit extra to protect.
