I don’t think I managed to sit through the entire “Valmont”. It was a bold move on Forman’s part to try another adaption of “Les liaisons dangereuses” at a time when he knew that Christopher Hampton’s brilliant stage version was to be put to film (Forman had tried to secure the rights himself). It backfired badly though. Forman’s version is so much inferior to Frear’s in all regards; annoyingly unnecessary and a waste of time and talent.
