Took me a while, but I finally got around to seeing the film (the Youtube video posted above, in other words). So many other films that stood in line in front of this. Anyways, it's not a very exciting affair. Basically an extended episode of LA LAW or something with very little 'extraneous' material beyond the courtroom sequences themselves. Rosie Perez is so annoying, it's difficult to sympathize with her as a victim. It's easier to sympathize with Forest Whitaker's alleged perpetrator, but I was expecting a kind of twist in the movie. Alas, that never happened. Whitaker's character just....well, accepted to plead guilty, even if he was innocent (or was he?). The film missed a few points there. As for Elliot's score, there's not a lot of it. Usually for some transportation sequences, and the few times they move away from procedural activities. The basic ingredients are soft synth textures, some oddball percussion, saxophone, electric guitars and a burst of dissonance during the assault. The opening 10 minutes of the film basically gives you everything. But I like it. It's like a combination of GOLDEN GATE and HEAT; very urban, very early 90s. I could definitely see this on album, perhaps combined with some of his other unreleased TV work (like GRAND ISLE).

What would have been nice if they replaced (or partially) the outdated samples with modern ones (you know like they did with ROSWELL), that is if they decided to release the score.

Are you talking about the BSX release? I have nothing against updating the samples, but then I'd rather have Goldenthal himself do it. I didn't care much for the BSX re-recording of ROSWELL; I actually think I prefer the original "bootleg" (shhh, don't tell anyone!). But as I said, I think CRIMINAL JUSTICE is too brief to be presented alone anyway. It would be need to be combined with something else. Under Goldenthal's supervision, of course.
