55 Buicks indeed!!!

Jack, you beat me to it!

Loved this show, and I cannot remember if we watched first run or in the 60s, but my parents were huge fans.

Thanks, Ray, awesome! Loved watching this (in syndication) as a kid in the early sixties on the old Zenith b&w tv, when the vertical hold wasn't acting up. I loved how Matthews talked faster and faster as the action heated up. Dig those '55 Buicks! Thanks!

jackfu, you might be interested that Maisto came out with a 1:25 diecast model of the '55 Buick used in the series (with or without a siren).

The sound editor for "Highway Patrol" was none other than Quinn Martin!

Quinn Martin really got his big break working for Desilu on THE UNTOUCHABLES.

Quinn Martin started out as head of post production at Universal, then went to Work at Ziv Television as a sound editor, and then went to work at Desilu, where he produced a few episodes of "Desilu Playhouse" (NOT just "The Untouchables").

Guess where THE UNTOUCHABLES started? I believe it was called DESILU PLAYHOUSE?

He worked on "The Jane Wyman Show" too. Quinn Martin was the executive producer on only the first season of "The Untouchables", and not the entire run. He went to start his production company in 1960, where his first series was "The New Breed", which is one of the few Q.M. series not on D.V.D.. After the failure of "The New Breed", Martin would not produce another series for two years (enter "The Fugitive").

I understand an update of this program is in the works. At the end instead of saying the old 10-4 they will be saying 11-5. Broderick Crawford is returnning from the grave and has signed up to play the Governor. 11-5.

I seem to recall that Gene Roddenberry got his start writing for HIGHWAY PATROL.

(OOPS--checking IMDB, I see he was on MR. DISTRICT ATTORNEY first, in 1954.)

I'm completely re-obsessed with this show. Having a marathon-watching afternoon, right now!

If you don't want to wait for the MOD disc, "Big House, U.S.A." is being shown on MGM's THIS channel tomorrow, Wednesday Nov 10, from 4:00pm - 6:00pm ET.

HIGHWAY PATROL fans should note that seasons two thru four of the series were finally released a few months ago by TGG Direct. And unlike season one, which MGM sold on MOD discs for $40, these later three seasons can be had on pressed discs for under $20 each.

Like HIGHWAY PATROL, MR. DISTRICT ATTORNEY was also a ZIV production, after it left ABC and became a syndicated show.

Long before C.H.I.P.S. [...] , there was the Ziv Television series HIGHWAY PATROL.

Crawford made an appearance as HP's Broderick Crawford in "CHiPs" where he got a ticket but was let go so they had give him a warning ánd gotten his autograph.
