Looks interesting:

Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

SKYLINE

Music Composed by
Matthew Margeson

In the sci-fi thriller Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth.

Skyline is directed and produced by the Brothers Strause (Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem), whose company Hydraulx has provided visual effects for Avatar, Iron Man 2, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and 300.

Newcomer Matthew Margeson contributes an epic orchestral score.

Universal Pictures opens SKYLINE on over 3500 screens on November 12.

Varèse Sarabande Catalog #: 302 067 057 2
Release Date: 11/16/10

I thought Brian Tyler was doing this?

Looking forward to hearing someone new though!

Hmmmmm. I saw the poster in the cinema last week and immediately thought of that silly Dean Koontz book The Taking.
Then I read the synopsis above, and it's totally Koontz' The Taking.
Never heard of the composer. Hope he tries something new and doesn't just try to emulate the current, established sound.

Matthew Margeson is a close collaborator to Brian Tyler, Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer.
He works regulary with Remote Control composers too.

Yeah, a little more about him here: http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=71033&forumID=1

Considering he got the job through the Brian Tyler connection, I'd guess we're going to be getting Brain Tyler-style action.

brian tyler had a schedule conflict so he was unable to score this film, so he was replaced by matthew margeson who has worked with brain on many films over the years. from what i hear he is still producing the film and overlooking the music, not sure though!

Purely orchestral? That's refreshing for this kind of movie these days. Might be worth a listen.

Well that was completely false advertising.

This sounds mostly electronic with orchestral parts that could have easily been layered synth lines. Makes me wonder what the point was of using an orchestra unless there are passages that may better represent the orchestral output that don't appear in the samples.

Has anyone listened to this and wants to give us the inside scoop?

Another score with orchestra doubled with synth. How imaginative....[rolls eyes]

I think it would be a novel approach to have synth lines exist on their own and having the acoustic lines play against them rather than mixed up in the great homogeneous goo we've been subjected to for the past decade...or longer.

Think of what Herrmann did with The Day the Earth Stood Still or even Goldsmith's use of synths in First Blood where they we're distinct and separate from the orchestra...those aren't bad scores by any stretch.

Based on the samples this is no ID4. Oh well, why should we expect anything remotely thematic in this day and time?

listening to the samples right now.
Well, Vaya Con Dios track is pretty cool, all the rest seems rather boring and not-so-new hearing

Played the first half of the album on Spotify the other day. Wasn't that impressed by it; certainly not enough to actually buy it.

Art & Tracklist are up at Varese:

James, where do you find large artwork like this? The site seems only to have 300x300 now, much smaller than on their previous site. Thanks for posting this.
