I just purchased BEAUTY AND THE BEAST on Blu-ray yesterday and really like the title song. Menken is quite a song writer. He's got eight Oscars. My favorite song of his is COLORS OF THE WIND. What about you guys?

Part Of Your World.

Especially the first four notes which remind me of Barry's "Curiouser and Curiouser."

I LOVE Menken!!

Favourite songs include "Arabian Night", "A Whole New World", "Heaven's Light/Hellfire" (especially the Hellfire bit). I especially like the larger-than-life, semi-operatic songs, since they are a type of song I often sing myself (in various settings).

Hard to pick just one, of course.

I don't know what "gets to me" about it, but try "Cold Enough to Snow" (lyrics by Stephen Schwartz)
from Menken's "Life With Mikey" score . . .

All the Menken non-musicals are worth a listen. He should do more of 'em, IMHO.

Honorable mention:

Have you ever clicked the SPECIAL CODE LEGEND on the left of the screen when writing a message?

My favourite set of songs is from the BEAUTY & THE BEAST but the song I listen more is THE BELLS OF NOTRE DAME, a perfect meld of playwriting and melody.

I think the songs with Ashman were on another level completely.

Feed Me from Little Shop might be my favourite. Love the B3.

I think "A Whole New World" is the most beautiful blend of music and lyrics in his career so far, especially with its film version opening. He sure is good at his craft but somewhat underused these days. Quite strange, especially given the number of awards he has won.

Well, we have TANGLED coming out next month if that's any consolation.

I was just on youtube listening to Menken's songs, and I love them. I'm going to buy his soundtracks, he doesn't have that many so it shouldn't be too difficult.

Something from Hunchback of Notre Dame or Pocahontas. Probably Bells of Notre Dame or Hellfire.

This is a difficult question for me to answer. I love Menken's songs and scores. I love them so much I carry The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast on my iPhone everywhere I go. Perhaps it's because they were 2 of the first films I ever saw in my life.

Anyways, if I had to choose a favorite song it would have to be the songs from either of those movies, because of the lyrics written by Howard Ashman. Specifically "Part of Your World", "Beauty and the Beast", and "Belle". The are absolutely wonderful numbers.

The late Howard Ashman truly deserves countless 'thank-yous' from me. It is due to his love of the musical that translated through those films and gave me my love for musicals.
