I enjoyed it immensely. The first episode was also directed by Scorsese. Honestly I've found that many of the movies and series on HBO are much better than what's been in the theaters in recent years and this looks like another great one.
Great period detail and feel. Steve Buscemi's performance has already established itself quite nicely in the opening episode as the central focal point of the series. Nobody can deliver a "f*#& off" type of line quite like Buscemi and he already has had a couple of choice ones already. Looking forward to future installments of the series and hope they can sustain the momentum and style of the first without Scorsese's direction.
Good Stuff....Expecially for those starved for period gangster films......Very violent, very realistic.......Acting, Direction, Cinematography - 10/10......If you liked SOPRANOS, you will love BOARDWALK EMPIRE
Ok, saw the first and second episode this week and it's pretty compelling. I like the Capone appearances and the Jimmy character has gotten the best storyline so far. I detected no score, only period pieces often used as source music.
Jury is still out for me. I won't compare it to The Sopranos just yet...and I also I won't rush home to watch it when there are repeats all throughout the week.
Jury is out for me too. I've watched the first two episodes. Nice production values, and some decent acting, but the characters haven't engaged me yet. I'm not sure I care at this point. I loved The Sopranos, so I'm hoping to get hooked on this series, but I'm still waiting.

I have to say I thought Buscemi's role stars off very one-note; it seems his character Nucky ties everything together but at the same time very little is happening with him. I'm sure he'll get more involved with the abused now single mother, but it's very by the book on his character. I thought the Jimmy storyline was more involving, especially the affair and the violence. They did a good job on casting this actor for that part.
Just saw the season finale, this is how you end a season. This is easily my favorite show of the year, the writing, directing and performances have been very consistent and busy to say the least. It feels like I've spent a year in Atlantic city, when it's only been little over two months! Great material.
was disappointed myself at first but last couple of episodes were less sleep inducing and I didn't find myself fast forwarding during scenes with no conversations.
great depth and nice development for the characters in only the first season
So with the series ended now, I was wondering what people made of the series in general and the way it ended?
For me the series got better as it progressed, mostly after the first two seasons; the remaining characters got more iconic and the Michael Shannon character's storyline hilarious, especially when he ends up working for Capone. Chalky White was another excellent character in the later seasons and I really liked how in the final season they did the flashback to Nucky's past on the boardwalk, great casting, to tie it back in with the first season. The final two episodes had some of the best writing on the show and I didn't expect them to take it there.
probably one of the best things on tv in the last two or three years. up there with walking dead, peaky blinders, Breaking Bad, Game of thrones, sherlock, Luther, romanze criminale and gomorra,

Yeah I'll miss watching it and Walking Dead is on hiatus... I might give Breaking Bad a try.
I too thought the series improved over time. I liked this series. My only complaint was that I thought there were at times too many different plot lines, a few not really all that relevant to Nucky. I thought those were added for padding. The ending was really quite perfect, and I really liked the flashbacks to his youth.
