Thanks for the translation. Anyone know if the CD tracks are in film order?

Just from the track titles, they would seem to be, but I don't know for sure.

Huh. SoundtrackCollector removed the tracklisting because they apparently can't use Japanese characters.

Thanks! Sorry for the late reply, didn't see your post until I resurrected this thread.

Regarding the score. How people have seen the film? It is out in Japan on DVD and Blu Ray and can be imported. I believe its getting released in Europe as well.

Comparing the score on the CD to the music in the film, I noticed something. It appears all the music written for the film appears in the first two thirds of the movie. The last third of the film reuses earlier cues. Either in whole or in part. So for the last part of the film there is no new music. I find that kind of odd. I wonder if they ran out of time or money? Or if it was planned that way?

Regardless in order to make a film accurate playlist its going to require some editing and re-tracking of cues. Some "less important" cues are missing from the OST, so it's not a complete score either.

Awesome film BTW! cool cool cool

Anybody hear the similarities starting at 6:24 with Battlestar Galactica 78 OST? Sound identical to me.

Interesting. A bit similar. The Yamato music was written roughly some 5 years before Galactica.

"While Japanese scores are less complex than their American counter parts ..."

You sir are wildly incorrect. Some of the best-orchestrated, most symphonically integral scoring I've EVER heard have come out of Japanese scores... And a lot of it within the last twenty years, as film music in the west has declined in quality.

FYI,

If you go to ITUNES and put in the composer's name: Hiroshi Miyazawa into their search window, you'll find a good amount of music from the TV shows and the movies available for download for a very reasonable price.

Thanks for the tip, Ford. It's Miyagawa with a g that brings up the albums on iTunes, though not on Spotify, my preferred digital poison.

Cool thxs guys! Question, why are there eight albums called "Starblazers"? I know that was the American title, but it was only for the first two seasons and it's probably trademarked.

It looks like a mix of different types of albums, from original soundtracks, to symphonic albums, to guitar/violin/piano versions. Personally, as a long time fan I'm way past calling it Star Blazers. Call the show what it is, Space Battleship Yamato. smile

Earlier this year I did a whole 7-part series on the music of Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers. I finally put together a sort of entry page here:

http://cuebycue.blogspot.com/p/space-battleship-yamato-music.html

Anyways, to relate to the thread posts above, there were 7 Yamato productions, only 2 of which were broadcast in the US as Star Blazers, though a 3rd season was available in a limited form. Miyagawa is kind of a Burt Bacharach-style composer, but if Burt did Star Trek/Star Wars. It's really great stuff, as fans of the show well know. iTunes has the newest series of soundtrack releases, the "Sound Almanac" series, which is about 30 CDs. They are labelled by year, which is a bit weird, but suffice to say 1974 was a VERY GOOD YEAR! More specific details are to be found at the link above.
