I’ve since read The Brothers Karamazov and Moby Dick (and Crime and Punishment and The Master and Margarita, which aren’t on the original list).
In fact I read Moby Dick all the way through, and a couple of years later read it again, but only as far as the sermon from Father Mapple. The landward side of Moby Dick is brilliant, the meeting and relationship with Queequeg both hilarious and touching. I didn’t feel the need to revisit the rest of it after the blistering sermon.
Karamazov was a chore but a very worthwhile one, as was C&P, but neither will be repeated as long as I have my sanity.
The Master & Margarita is a wonderful read and I’m overdue to pick it up for what will be the fourth time.
