I've been delving into the early eps of BEWITCHED when it was at the peak of it's greatness and thought I'd post these-

Liz Montgomery was a fine actress. She could do it all. I sure miss her.

From the day she passed away-

Did you ever see her in a great 1985 TV movie, Between the Darkness and the Dawn? I remember seeing this when I was like 8 at the time and freaking LOVED it. Why some 8 year old is watching this very dramatic film, who knows. Wonderful job and a great score by Dana Kaproff.

I taped it off TV and then put it to DVD, I get it out once in a while.

Basically this teenage girl in the 50's or 60's while at school, collapses. At the time she had the perfect life, boyfriend, cheerleader etc. She slowly awakes like 20 plus years later to find everything has changes, very interesting story and a great great job by Elizabeth.

I missed it, sounds great. She was a consummate actress, TV was her playhouse, she never seemed interested in theatrical movies. God love her, she died too young, and died a dignified early death. She found out weeks before she passed of the severity of her illness.

There isn't a single thing she has done, that I haven't seen. Among my top 10 favorite actresses. I miss her so much.

Here's a little clip that shows some of her comedic talent. I couldn't decide whether to post it here or on the Lynde thread.

P.S. She sure looked like her daddy! There is no mistaking the resemblance.

Only Liz was much more purty. smile I love her work. All those
great tv movies. The ones I always wound up watching were
the scary ones, like THE VICTIM. I saw that when I was 6 in
1971. Scared the poo out of me, and I had nightmares for
a couple days after.

Thanks for the links. I never knew she did audio interviews.

I agree -- probably my favorite made for tv movie -- I would think that it was her finest hour in drama.
Surprisingly there has never been a theatrical film based on the case of Lizzie Borden .

Elizabeth Montgomery had loads of charisma and charm, but I've read interviews that suggest she was not very confident of her beauty. Anyway, she had a warm, approachable quality and I think she's quite presentable:

She's very touching in this mid first season ep of BEWITCHED. It was one of the first I ever saw when I was 9 during summer 1965 reruns when our family was back in the states for vacation.

I have the entirety of The Victim on my Facebook page. It's typical TV movie fare, but she is no less than excellent in what is almost a one-woman show. I'm not sure if I share the links, if you can see it or not? Or, if you need to be a Facebook friend to see them. I'll try. Here's part one. If you can see it, I'll post the rest.

PhillyJay,

always reminded us of a small-screen virtuous version of

meaning someone with a star’s charisma yet also (primarily, as they’d probably no doubt be the first to announce) a substantial character actress at their impressive core. As to that, what we feel is her most superlative performance

came opposite an equally memorable Hal Holbrook

in one of the finest mini-series most folks have never heard of, 1978’s

Ms. Montgomery – under Boris Sagal’s incisive direction - delivers an aching characterization (beautifully balanced and matched each step of the way by the equally tortured Mr. Holbrook) of a frontier heroine in the truest sense of the word, who overcomes obstacles and challenges from nature no less than flawed humanity, all the while painting as profound a portrait of staunch integrity, understated strength and transcendent tenacity that shoulda won her an Emmy. If you haven’t seen it, by all means track it down and prepare yourself for a feast of a show and acting that’s all aces.

Then again, so was she.

Thanks, Neo. Yes, it is a great film.

So, can anyone view the video I posted? I'm really curious.

You have to belong to Facebook, and in my case I don't want to get sucked into that.

The Ties That Bind Department:

Und Little-Known Historical Nugget Department:

Tho it’s now utterly impossible to imagine anyone else as the star of

turns out one of our favorite actresses – Tammy Grimes - actually signed for the role of Samantha
but bailed ‘cause she thought it was gonna be a grade-a floparoonie.

We should all ‘flop’ so fabulously, no? wink

And Dick Sergeant was to be Grimes' husband. Although, I don't think she left as much as they never really sealed the deal with the network. Montgomery and her husband, William Asher were shopping a series about a multi-millionaire woman, who marries a regular Schmo, and has to continually fight the urge to use her money, to buy her out of various situations. The Grimes/Sergeant show was about a witch who marries a mortal. ABC took the witch theme and combined it with the rich woman plot, and took Liz and her husband. Asher wanted York, not Sergeant. I think things worked out exactly as they should have.
