This has got to be one of the most underrated scores of the last twenty years, by one of the most underrated composers. It's damn near perfect. Great drama, thrilling adventure, period detail... and a 90% chance that the cue "Training Montage" was the temp track for the opening of Pirates of the Caribbean. Highly recommended to anyone who loves a great adventure score!

It's too bad that it's out of print and it costs 40 beans (at a minimum) at Amazon.

Yikes! I had no idea. Here's hoping it comes into print again soon... it's worth owning.

Nice score, I got it. Didn't see the movie yet though smile Did hear it was quite good.

I love Shearmur's work... sadly underused composer. Love the raw Reign of Fire. Would love to see Shearmur get some more big adventure movies to score instead of those Remote Control family guys. Yuck.

I agree, he's pretty darn good, love all his stuff. I think he also did K-Pax which is another favorite of mine!!

I passed on it when i came across a copy.
Subsequently, I learned it was a collectible.
Went back and it was gone!

d'oh!!!!!!!!!!!!

i suspect Riotengine snatched it away before i could retrieve it.
Damn you Riotengine, damn you to hell!!!

I'll add my voice to those praising the score. Haven't played it for a long while though, which I'll correct over the next day or two thanks to this reminder thread.

Agreed. Excellent score. I noticed it immediately when I first saw the film and snagged the album up years ago. The tracks "Training Montage" and "Escape from the Island" are highlights. The End Titles are excellent as well.

I'm not very good at keeping up on what albums are out of print though so I was unaware until this thread that it is a hard to find disc.

PS- Forgot to add the track "Invitation to the Ball." Really like that one.

A great score by a very underused and underrated composer , Shearmur is a true talent
I remember buying it on ebay for a cool 20 bucks - Basil I'm sure you will be able to find it at a good price on some marketplaces if you plan , one day , to buy it.

Also a rare score that does not repeat the main theme ad nauseum...

Revisiting my Shearmur top 5 and this one takes the 2nd place right behind Sky Captain but definitely wins the 1st price for the most beautiful cover in his whole discography (well, the japanese version).
If only there was a way to get Shearmur autograph this beauty ;-)

I still don't own this one on CD - does anyone know if there's any music missing from this release, and if it could do with an expansion?

Also, could the sound be improved on this one? I think I read somewhere that it's one you have to turn the volume up on a bit.

It's at least 48 tracks and 114:15 minutes long, so quite a bit missing.

The album is pretty much perfect. The complete score is borderline tedious. Nothing missing of note.
