Who is Nigel Goodrich?

Well according to the IMDB, this is his FIRST film as a composer. Seriously.

He's more than a first time composer, he's one of the most sought out and popular pop music producers of the last ten years. He co-produced Radiohead's OK Computer and has worked with artists such as U2 and Paul McCartney.

Giorgio Moroder was a "first time composer" from a similar background and he won an Oscar.

All around awesome choice for this film.

Is this a new "Universal Theme"? I mean shouldn't it be credited as Arranged by instead?

I dont really know yet...reading reviews and such, I'm under the impression its the same Universal theme as usual, but with the logo rendered in a retro Nintendo style and the music is nintendo 8 bit midi. But thats what I took from reading about it. I could be way off.

Update: Itunes now has the cd, and you can listen to clips, including the universal theme. As I thought, its a Nintendo styled MIDI 8 bit theme! Totally awesome.

My friends and I were in the audience for the screening of the film at Comic-Con. NEVER have I heard an audience cheer for a studio logo as that audience did. The lights dimmed, the Universal logo popped up in limited-color pixels, looking straight out of the NES era, with the theme in its re-done 8-bit glory, and the crowd SCREAMED with joy.

I ended up not being too wild about the film overall, but it was definitely one of the best VIEWING experiences of my entire life. razz

"The 'Scott Pilgrim' Soundtrack Is Streaming Now"
http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/08/09/scott-pilgrim-soundtrack/

http://www.spinner.com/new-releases#/1 is offering official streaming listening of the score only and songtrack album versions. Not sure for how long, but for today at least, for the "listening party" around the release of both score and song albums!

That adaptation of the Goldsmith Universal Pictures fanfare sounds great. smile

My god....well, I bought the Scott Pilgrim score blind for several reasons...its from a first time composer (but not producer: Radiohead, etc), the movie looks awesome... And then guess what...the music is pretty darn good, but theres GOD FORSAKEN DIALOGUE ON THE TRACKS!!! Would it hurt soundtrack producers to listen to soundtrack fans just ONCE when we say...theres maybe .01% of score fans out there who LIKE dialogue on soundtracks. It didnt work on Braveheart, didnt work on Gladiator, didnt work on Angelas Ashes and it NEVER works. Some of the tracks are just plain ruined. They could have put the dialogue on seperate tracks like some nice producers do who isnt to far out of touch with reality but no...The biggest kicker...nobody likes dialogue on score albums. Ive never read one positive comment about it unless it was about it on seperate tracks...which then...is fine. Rant over.

Well, I have not seen the movie yet, so I'm not entirely sure about placement of score, but from the totally awesome dialogue (sarcasm) it appears that it might be contained to the movies fight sequences. Fight, Rumble and The Grind all have completly weird dialogue. And by weird, I'm talking the placement of just one word "Whatever!" sometimes. Uh yeah...theres a completly awesome and memorable piece of dialogue. Right up there with Mel Gibsons speech from Braveheart. Oh heres another one..."Sorry I guess"....you can tell what track thats in. Seriously, theres got to be actual memorable dialogue from the film, but its like they went out of their way to include the stupidest parts imaginable. And if this albums dialogue is THE BEST parts....wow...George Lucas just entered the Shakespeare hall of fame. But about the music. Its really cool if you like 80's atmospheric, type scores with electronics. You even get some obvious references to 80's videogame classics like Legend of Zelda. Pretty good I would say...except for the dialogue.

Just when I thought that films couldn't delve lower than Fanboys or Juno for their idiotic pop culture deconstruction mishmash know-nothing self-aware garbage comes a pastiche movie of that very genre that caters to internet users between the ages of 15 and 25.

Even looking at the poster art makes me feel like someone is stabbing me in the parietal lobe with hot fireplace pokers.

I know what Robert Neville felt like.

Well Ive finished it and I must say its a complete waste. You cant even make your own playlist because most of the best parts have dialogue. And like I said up above....horrible dialogue. Too bad because theres some really cool bits in there. Not the worst score of the year, but definetly the worst presented score of the year.

i don't hear a ton of dialogue on the 30 second snippets but have to say the movie sounds pretty bland from what i can here on these samples. i was excited when i heard about this yesterday but not sure if i'll bite. too many of these are just putting me to sleep.

Saw this film last night and I'm still not completely sure what I truly think of it.
I'd enjoyed Wright's previous films (SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ) so gave this a go, despite the horrible trailer.
There was a lot I liked and a lot I didn't like.
It's way too geeky for a mainstream audience, with no logic whatsoever! I'm guessing the comic book is like this, so I suppose we can't blame the filmmakers for this.
It's too long by at least 20 minutes and the fights become boring and repetitive.
Michael Cera goes beyond annoying in this film and cements his reputation as one of the worst (non)actors working today.
But I did have a few chuckles, the young asian girl was hot (and far sexier than the Kate Winslett/Eternal Sunshine coloured hair lookalike) and there were some neat cheesy FX and good songs.
It reminded me of Bill & Ted meets Kick-Ass (without the nasty violence), and I suppose if something reminds me of Bill & Ted I'm always gonna be happy.
Strange film overall, I don't see it making a ton of money.

Sadly, you're right on this point. Fucking Vampires Suck outgrossed it. I don't even want to think about what that says about our society.

Fantastic movie, perfect score, and a great rock 'n' roll soundtrack. LeHah is a bitch for lumping it together with Fanboys and Juno and all that pap. He really should get out more often because his La-Z-Boy criticisms hurt his reputation. wink

theres GOD FORSAKEN DIALOGUE ON THE TRACKS!!!

Not on most of the tracks, and on the ones with dialogue, it very much works. Most of it is situated between the cues.

For the record, I loved the movie. I never felt it was too long, if anything, it should longer to allow for a bit more character development (which is why I'll be picking up the books in the near future...)
