Kaper composed a number of very fine scores for MGM in the 1940's, notably Gaslight, A Woman's Face, The Mortal Storm, Mrs. Parkington, Our Vines Have Tender Grapes, The Secret Garden, That Forsythe Woman, and many others. Has it ever been established (one way or the other) if the musical elements for these scores exists?

I know. That "Vol. 1" intrigues me.....

I'd love to get the tracks to GREEN DOLPHIN STREET, a classic score, but I have heard on several occasions that the tracks are lost.

More's the pity.

But there are a lot of other Kaper scores out there, I'm sure.

The MGM Cinemascope remake of The Barretts Of Wimpole Street (1957) sounds right up Kapers street. I haven't heard it as I haven't seen the film (no DVD or anything). Looking at the IMDB, Kaper used the same Herbert Stothart theme as was used in the 1934 version.

There's also his work for Warner Bros., such as "Auntie Mame" (already on F.S.M.) and the main title for the television series "The F.B.I." (plus two early Season 1 episode scores).

Here's the "FBI" opening, circa 1967:

The FSM release of AUNTIE MAME did not include the original tracks.

Which do exist, on a (Ahem..) "independent" recording...

But then, they're not from MGM; so it wouldn't be included in any future volumes, I assume.

Having just watched the noir film, 'Act of Violence', I was mesmerized by Kaper's score (conducted by Previn). So, it begs the question: Mr. Kendall, will there be more of Kaper at MGM released?

Curious what will happen sooner... Kaper at MGM or more Early Years of JG...
Probably neither until the hell freezes over...

It looks like I checked ACT OF VIOLENCE out of the library already. How did I miss the score??

Well, sometimes they don't play in my player. Maybe now that I have a laptop with a dvd drive, I can try again.

Thank you for the reminder, BB.

I would be happy to help another label with more Kaper music. We started evaluating some of the titles before I decided to close down FSM at 250 albums, and I'd be happy to turn over our research. I fear the commercial prospects would not be great, though.

I have to give FSM a lot of credit for introducing me to Kaper's music, as I had never even heard of him prior to Lukas and co. releasing a number of his scores on CD.

I would definitely be on board for more Kaper!
