I think the TV show version is dynamite. The added drums, synth layers and samples are... dynamite! It might be the closest thing TD did to uptempo 80s synthpop, in my opinion. I think the Le Parc versionsounds like tinny 8 bit video game music. What went wrong? there's nothing wrong, the album version is basically a longer version of the theme, with different drums, percussion and synths. the TV theme is much quicker, harder, with more pulsating synths, percussion and drums. The original TV Version has never been released officially in any format, and for me its the best version. The LeParc version is a decent alternative, but nothing beats the original. I think Pilati's amazing cover versions are more than perfect to tide us over till the original soundtrack is eventually released.

Curiously, no one has responded to my mention of the brilliant Giuliano Pilati remix CD's, so let me just give you the LINK where he offers these albums for FREE!! http://www.madeofme.com/compositions.htm Fantastic stuff. I've been pimping that link for a long time here. Pilati's mixes are gold. I am content with those while Froese plays with himself for the next decade. nevermind decade, more like another 20 years. I've never understood why such great synth music has been relegated to the vaults, even though there are no orchestras etc to pay. It really is unfair on the music lover to miss out on such great tracks for so long. alas, we can still hope, someday we might get the originals.
