After ranting about the price and the 3,000 renditions of the love theme...I ordered the damned thing. Hey, it's Alex North's SPARTACUS. Goodbye 120 bucks.

I'm going to pick this up as well. I think it's a great set and I know it's a dream come true for many. That being said...hee hee...It would be nice if CD's 1,2 & 3 were available as an alternative set. I would pick that up instead just for budget reasons. But it is what it is...take it or leave it...

Bitch and Buy - that sounds like a good name for a retail store, doesn't it?

I'm going to start a film soundtrack retail store with that name!

I thought about it long and hard but I've just ordered it. It looks like a great presentation of a great score. I'm sure I would regret it if I missed out.

Ah, but are you sure that Lukas doesn't own the copyright by due ownership of everything said and said again within these here threads?

The returns desk can be called "The Bitching Stops Here".

Hey I beat you -- I bought first and then bitched. Still feel like I've been bitch-slapped by Varese, but as you say, it is SPARTACUS after all. 42 versions of "Louie, Louie" er...no, that's the Spartacus Love Theme. Yeah. Sheesh.

Better 42 versions of "Louie, Louie" than "Its a Small World."

By the end of that second disc you won't be able to tell the difference...

I just worked out what it would cost me: $155.00 Australian including postage. I don't think I can justify that even after a 50 year wait. If the complete score tracks were in stereo, yes, I'd hold my nose and jump (and cry a lot afterwards), but I've bought mono before in the belief that the brilliance of the music would overcome the limitations of the sound (Hawaii, Land of the Pharoahs) and ended up listening through once and never again. That's just how it is with me and mono--we don't get along (he's just too narrow-minded).

A one track mind, in fact.

Good for you.

I didn't bitch, just shook my head and ordered.

I did however feel sorry for those who couldn't afford it.

Robert Townson made this for himself and got us to pay for it.

It will eventually be a collectors item.

Soon, it will be they DIDN'T buy, lost out and then the true hand- wringing bitching shall commence.

"They should have pressed MORE" big grin

5000 copies. $120 bucks plus. It may sell out. Spartacus may rise from the grave. Let's see which happens first.

Over at Varese the boxed set is "temporarily out of stock." I've never known that to be the case since it was released. Any ideas, anyone?
