Someone posted a bit from "Murder by the Book" on YouTube.

Murder by the Book remains the best movie Spielberg ever made. Love that opening shot.

I wouln't go so far, but it's definitely one of the best Columbo episodes.
So sad, that Jack Cassidy had to leave this world so soon. Really liked his three Columbo roles.

I usually watch columbo saturdays around noon on tv while I'm preparing dinner; there was one episode involving a sex therapist with an alter ego and the character had a great femme fatale theme, I thought the music was very good on that episode.

Edit: someone posted it on youtube, enjoy!

I usually watch columbo saturday's around noon on tv while preparing some food; there was one episode involving a sex therapist with an alter ego and the character had a great 'basic instinct' seduction-type theme, I thought the music was very good on that episode.

That must have been "Sex and the Married Detective" from 1989. Patrick Williams, a regular composer on the latter seasons, composed this gorgeous saxophone theme. Perfect match for the show's murderer.
Agree with you!

EDIT: Thanks for the link! wink

Just seeing his face makes me smile at the relish he had playing those roles.

Hello

I'm writing here because I'm searching a track that I heard in a Columbo episode, "Old fashioned murder".
The opening and ending music, composed by Dick de Benedictis, which I liked very much, as the episode itself....

Do you know how it can be found?

Thank you very much.

I was watching Jack Cassidy's last Columbo episode, 'Now You See Him'. What a great opening theme (by Bernardo Segall). I'm still hopeful that a Columbo soundtrack might pop up at some point.

The gent who plays the victim in that episode, Jesse Jerome (Nehemiah Persoff), is still alive and kicking at 95!

I'd say it isn't Columbo who's dumbo.

here's Billy Goldenberg's RANSOM FOR A DEAD MAN score LP!! (no FX)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMzZ56oDaAo

the highlight may be the flying sequence music (expanded from the episode, I think) at 13min11

A few years back I was sick in bed and there was a Columbo marathon.

Every episode was identical.

Person is killed before the opening credits. After the first commercial, Columbo interviews the deceased's spouse or business partner. He is always a wealthy, fit, middle-aged guy who has just come out of the pool or off of the tennis court. It is 9 or 10 in the morning and the wealthy, fit, middle-aged guy heads straight to the bar and mixes a bloody Mary. Columbo asks questions and the wealthy, fit, middle-aged guy gives him a few terse answers before saying, "I am a very busy man Lieutenant, now if you'll excuse me."

The wealthy, fit, middle-aged guy is always guilty.

Only Scooby Doo has more predictable plot lines.

Lol Then you didn't watch enough Columbos. A lot of them aren't even men as the murderer and a lot of them are not wealthy or fit men in the slightest. The show was more about how Columbo uses hia charm and seemingly slow-wit to actually outsmart the suspects and less about the actual murder. Most of the time the murder suspect thinks they are so much smarter or educated than Columbo that they just brush him off as a simpleton. Quite the contrary. The character was pretty fun to watch as well.

If you didn't like it, it's probably because you missed the whole point of the character and the show. And there are a few episodes that don't follow the shows usual patterns. Columbo featured some very clever writing and character dialogue. Definitely one of the 1970's best shows and characters.

Different strokes for different folks. But your assessment of the show and the characters is so far off and inaccurate. LoL
Watch the episode By Dawn's Early Light or Try & Catche Me. Both are nothing like you describethe show as being. You might be pleasantly surprised.
