Re-watched this film the other night (haven't seen for years) and I love the whole "badass" approach to the score. Anyone like the style of this score from Mark Mancina and Trevor Rabin? You can certainly tell their styles easily in this.

Here's the main theme (love the soaring guitar at 1:00):

Does anyone know also if some cues were only composed by Mancina or Rabin?

This is my favorite 'media ventures' score (there aren't many). I saw this in the theater and immediately sought out the soundtrack. I like the guitar/banjo licks, the beats and the 'fat' bass lines.

Cool score! I love Rabin's "melancholic guitars", as I call them.

Bet that must have been an amazing experience this theme at the theater.

The Con Air Theme (as heard in above Youtube Clip) wasn't in the picture, it was made for the theatrical trailer of the movie.

Well, this theme appears in the movie. Maybe not this exact cue, though. Even so, the trailer surely was shown in theaters.

one of my first MV scores , I remember liking a lot the opening sequence with the rangers: "rangers lead the way" and the cool patriotic theme playing with

I have a vague memory of Trevor Rabin have said (in a interview?) that he himself did the most of the score since Mancina was busy scoring some other movie at the same time (perhaps Speed 2?).

The main Con Air theme features most heavily in the film when Cameron makes his run through the boneyard battle. It also appears as guitar underscore at times, and a variation plays during the the final fire truck chase too.

It did sound great in cinemas (I was an usher back in 1997), but sounds way better through the PCM lossless track on the blu-ray!

(I'm new here, by the way. Hello!)

Hello sifr2, and welcome.
--------------------------------

I have never seen this film and have never heard the score. I might check out the film and score now though since many of you seem to like it.

Cool score, especially the Overture.

Hi sifr2, welcome! This is a movie I'll most def get on blu-ray. I'm not the biggest Nicholas Cage fan, but the supporting cast makes up plenty smile

Hello, and thanks (love the avatar!)

The Con Air BR is stunning picture/sound wise. It's the theatrical cut, but I prefer that to the extended version anyway.

Unbelievably, some people were up and out of their seats when I was at the cinema as soon as it faded to black at the end - they missed the Steve Buscemi tag! I had to try and block them! (The next year, I occasionally went further and physically barred fire doors so people couldn't leave Wild Things until all the reveal scenes in the credits had finished.)

I love this score. CD needs a better release than this though. There is soooo much music missing, with alternate cues popping up in every other track. It's also completely out of chronological order if I recall correctly. There's zero liner notes too. Weird thing about my version is that I got TWO inlays for the front cover.

Awesome film. Awesome score!

As I already said, this score needs an expansion. Now that LaLaLand are (probably) releasing Speed 2 perhaps they can see fit to expand another summer 97 action score from Mark Mancina.

1. Con Air Theme (01:31)
2. Trisha (01:04)
3. Carson City (03:04)
4. Lear Crash (04:44)
5. Lerner Landing (03:28)
6. Romantic Chaos (01:22)
7. The Takeover (03:52)
8. The Discharge (01:09)
9. Jailbirds (00:59)
10. Cons Check Out Lerner (01:55)
11. Poe Saves Cops (02:25)
12. The Fight (00:22)
13. Battle In The Boneyard (07:41)
14. Poe Meets Larkin (01:14)
15. Bedlam Larkin (00:49)
16. Fire Truck Chase (04:22)
17. Overture (04:18)

Track listing as it SHOULD appear

1. The Discharge (01:09)
2. Overture (Main Title) (04:18)
3. Jailbirds (00:59)
4. The Takeover (03:52)
5. Carson City (03:04)
6. Lerner Landing (03:28)
7. Cons Check Out Lerner (01:55)
8. Tricia
9. Poe Saves Cops (02:25)
10. The Fight (00:22)
11. Poe Meets Larkin (01:14)
12. Lear Crash (04:44)
13. Battle In The Boneyard (alternate version) (07:41)
14. Bedlam Larkin (00:49)
15. Romantic Chaos (01:22)
16. Fire Truck Chase (04:22)
17. Con Air Theme (01:31) (Bonus Track, combination of two separate tracks

Of course there is about 30 minutes worth of music missing from this, but the Hollywood Records release from 1997 is a joke compared to how good the score is.

I'd like to bump discussion on this score. My Hollywood Records CD is simply an abomination which needs replaced with something bigger and better.

The first time I listened to this (borrowed it from a friend in the late-90s), I didn't care for it aside from the last couple of tracks. But then I saw it cheap one day, after I'd become a fan of Trevor Rabin, and decided to pick it up and give it another listen. It quickly grew on me so much that I was playing it practically every day for awhile.

I don't think it's in much need of an expansion, and if it was to ever be expanded I likely wouldn't bother buying it. Aside from the out-of-order track list, the OST gives me pretty much all I want/need, and I'm perfectly happy with it as is.

The film was the most over the top sonic assault I've ever experienced in a cinema, and I loved every minute of it. The 4 note bad guy motif is one of the coolest Bad-Ass motifs I've ever heard.
But, yes the album is to incomplete with to many edits for me. Hoping for La-La to come to the rescue.
I'm kind of pumped with talk of a sequel on the horizon. I liked Cage in the role but it would be tuff to get an ensemble cast of villians to match the first. Of course Rabin and Mancina to score again.

"Put The Bunny Back" smile

I think Rabin stepped in once Mancina left to quickly do Speed 2. I have no idea what their individual contributions are. But I seriously love this score and it needs a much better release.

Even the cover art was horrible. It was a One-Sheet poster which doesn't fit the square nature of a CD cover, so they just gave it a black border...yuck!
