I'm not really sure what became of this composer. He did three great scores for three Seagal movies and nice score for a TV movie called Blindsided before vanishing off the radar. I always felt he had a lot of talent at creating memorable themes and tough action music.

Back in 1991 Varese Sarabande released the "soundtrack" (not score album) to Out for Justice. There were 11 tracks but only three featured DMF's music, the rest were early 90's pop songs (very unusual for Varese). I have combined the three tracks from the Varese release with the four tracks on the Steven Seagal CD from Crescendo but this still only adds up to about 20 minutes.

I think a proper release for OFJ would make for a good limited edition, maybe from LaLaLand, if Varese no longer hold the rights.

Main Title (04:02)
Searching For Richie (01:06)
Roxanne (01:03)
In Loving Memory (02:27)
House Call (01:45)
One Night In Brooklyn (03:39)
Final Encounter (04:25)

Yup, that's all we got (across two completely different CD's no doubt).

I gave HERO AND THE TERROR and SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO another spin the other day; the latter is particular is quite enjoyable. I guess they might be tough to track down these days, though.

Nico, Hard to kill, Out for Justice, Best of the Best II, Hero and the Terror and Showdown in little Tokyo are all great scores.

Last I heard about DMF was that he was working with Michael Jackson (yes THE Michael Jackson) but this is no more (If MJ didnĀ“t made an Elvis and now lives on an island somewhere)

To be fair, Frank did co-write and/or co-produce all but one of the songs. But yeah, that was an unusual release for Varese Sarabande even then (and certainly now - To Die For and Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever got the same treatment; the latter is as close as they've come to a regular release soundtrack, with lots of songs and one score track... yes, I know they put out the Don Davis score CD as well!).

Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever...

...worst movie title in history.

I really like DMF's music for the Seagal films. I really like JNH's score for Marked for Death also...that one SCREAMS RELEASE ME!!!

I'd like a release of M4D too. The music as Hatcher returns to his old bedroom and examines his photos is wonderful.

His best score is for 'Code Of Silence'. I once e-mailed David Frank and he responded saying the rights to the music were with EasyStreet Records, and they didn't exist anymore.
He wasn't able to release it on CD

Hey, you're right. I just checked the end credits and all but the Beastie Boys track are all either written and/or produced by DMF.

Back in 1997 my brother died in a car accident. I wanted some kind of music at the funeral (besides the singing of one of his friends who happens to be a professional singer). I decided upon two film music pieces. First the people in the church got to hear In Loving Memory from Out For Justice and then Carol Anne`s Theme (End Title) from Poltergeist. Afterwards everyone told me that they thought I had chosen very appropriate and beautiful pieces of music. So when I told them what it was and from which movies they (almost) didn`t believe me. After that I sent an e-mail to David Michael Frank (through his official website) and told him about this and he replied and thanked me for my story (and them) for liking his music.

So because of that, David Michael Frank`s music to Out For Justice is more of just music to a Steven Seagal movie it is a memory I shall never forget. Actually when writing this and thinking about it almost makes me cry (and thinking of my brother Martin who lost his life because of a drunk driver).

I would love to have an expanded score release of that one.

If you have heard the interview with Seagal at the end of the Steven Seagal/David Michael Frank compilation CD then you would know that Seagal essentially says that he does not like the choice of composer (James Newton Howard as we all know). So I guess in a way he apparently was no fan of JNH`s score.

But we the fans like it so we can at least hope that it will be released one day.

Thanks for sharing, Tobias, my condolences, and I applaud your choices for the funeral pieces. Reading interesting and heartfelt posts like this is one of the saving graces for this...message board.

Not familiar with this particular score, but DMF is a pretty underrated guy. He wrote an utterly beautiful small-scale chamber score for the TV adaptation of one of my favorite Ray Bradbury short stories, ALL SUMMER IN A DAY, and an impressive symphonic work for the little-seen TV-made sequel to BORN FREE, which nods toward Barry's original theme but also has a lot of its own large-scale thematic material deserving of a better film.

I've also heard great things about his score to A KID IN ALADIN'S PALACE but haven't heard that score myself yet.

"What about you, Paulie? You got the fuckin' balls?"
"Yeah, yeah I got the balls."
[Richie tosses him a wad of cash]
"Now you've got the bread."

That's what I'm talkin 'bout!

Would buy OFJ in a heartbeat. Played his scores to death back in the day.
