Nearly a year since this was released by FSM.

Quite a blockbuster score.

A most-cherished release. I'd love to see a Criterion edition of Parallax View.

The original DVD is 12 years old and apparently not so easy to come by these days.

right. that's why I snatched up a copy from Blockbuster 's going out of biz sale - $3 bucks!
smile
it's for sale or trade on my Trading Post thread

Parallax View is one of those scores I play over and over. The beginning and end titles are so powerful. So scary. So 70's paranoia

After enjoying the score I looked it up on Netflix and you can actually stream the movie, at least....

That "paranoia riff" from Parallax crops up in Marathon Man, too.

Gave this CD yet another spin yesterday.
It just gets better and better with each play for me.
I honestly think the Parallax Test cue may be one of the greatest music tracks I've ever heard.
It's just phenomenal. I will never tire of listening to it.
It's the sound of America from late 60's to early 70's for me.
An amazing track in an amazing score.
I picked the DVD up the other day and I'm really looking forward to re-watching the film for the first time in many moons.

I still think Goldsmith's "Coma" & William's "Black Sunday" are the best 70's paranoia scores hands down and twice on Sunday but I just listened to these again and MAN, they're good.

By the way, does anybody know the type of font used on the words "The Parallax View" as seen on the SPINE of the cd (not the inserts)? I LOVE that font. Simple & iconic.

Looks like Paramount has reissued the old Parallax View DVD as well as a number of other back catalog films.

Have you heard his score for THE STAR CHAMBER?
It was written in a very similar style.
If you like this double bill you should like that score also.

Someone commented on the font used on the spine of the "Parallax View" DVD box, and I went on a search for my copy of it but couldn't find it -- with over 4,000 DVDs, some occasionally fall between the cracks, and that one seems to be the latest victim. I mainly wanted to find it to take a listen to some of the music to decide whether or not I should buy this CD. But some of the comments convinced me to put it in my SAE cart, along with a couple of other things. But, as I reported in the "Prancer" discussion, trying to make sure I hadn't already ordered "Prancer" I found a confirming email from SAE that weeks ago I had already ordered the "Marathon Man/Parallax View" CD," so I quickly deleted it from my cart. Hope that when I DO get it that it matches some of the positive comments posted about it earlier in this thread. "The Parallax View" is an excellent, even haunting movie, and it has inspired a number of other films over the years. Anyone remember Stephen King's movie "The Dead Zone" with Martin Sheen as a candidate with evil plans and Christopher Walken determined to stop him? But it all probably started with the wonderful (original!) "The Manchurian Candidate"!

Ah, you mean TDZ? That was a nice little movie about Johnny Smith.

Once upon a time, the idea of a CD for Marathon Man would have seemed a joke. It's a beauty. I loved the resolution in the closing titles, whereby the theme was predominantly put on an even plane to undo the disquiet that surrounded it formerly at various times when Babe didn't know safe from unsafe. That final piece sounds melodious cos he knows it's safe.

Who's Babe? Dustin Hoffman?

Affirmative. He's also given the lowly title of 'The Creep' or just plain 'Creepy' by a local gang of youths, because he's not of their stock - he being a keen student at university with something to prove. You mean to say, Ron, you ain't seen the movie yet? WOW! Guess who's Scylla, The Rock? Also, The White Angel. And Janeway!

You'll never look at your electric toothbrush in quite the same way ever again smile

Yes, while I remembered that Roy Scheider was his brother "Doc" and Laurence Olivier Szell and William Devane Janeway ("Call me Janey"), I HAD forgotten that Dustin Hoffman's nickname in the movie was "Babe." Many of us now associate "Babe" with a movie about a pig, and, before that, the baseball great, I had temp amnesia about Hoffman's character's nickname in this gripping drama. "Is it SAFE???"

Fortunately I have. Also Klute. Parallax View is the middle child, somehow turned out best. The balance of paranoia and a kind of patriotic surety wins.

I wrote about ordering "Marathon Man/The Parallax View" last month from SAE and just received it, along with the DVD for "The Incredible Shrinking Man," the made to order DVD of "The Competition," and the Criterion Collection Blu-ray of Robert Altman's great "Nashville." Will probably put on "Nashville" first! Strike that. I decided to download the "MM/TPV" cd first, and notice that it has some of Jeff Bond's patented insightful notes. Great! And wow -- 49 cues for 79 minutes! Not much room left THERE! Incidentally, I bought it mainly because of composer Michael Small than any memory I may have had of the music in either of those taut dramas.

Playing this Michael Small double header for the first time in a while and reminded of just what a great album it is. Tense, moody, atmospheric. Can't believe this one didn't sell out long ago....

Yes. One of the best two-fer CD's ever released.
Two great films.
Two great scores.
Although MARATHON MAN is the more liked and better reviewed film, I personally favour PARALLAX VIEW as a film AND score. But I'm weird like that.

As you may have guessed - what with you lot going on about it - I finally got around to watching the DVD again.

The music with the film is just perfect.

On its own, on the CD, its good, I find it evocative of the film, but Im not yet convinced it works so well as an isolated listen. Perhaps I will change my mind after more listens.
.

check out my resequencing for a 'good listen' - i agree that as presented on cd it does not work well as an iso listen
