Does anyone use Skype? I do, and I know a prominient FSM member does. I recently had a wonderful 4 hour conversation about film music in general last weekend with another film music fan. If you use it, I would be interested to actually video chatting to you about film music rather than reading the text on here.

Please do not post your Skype user-name on here.

I use Skype fairly often but my soundcard died this past week.

If anyone wants to add me, my email is halfimagined AT gmail . Let me know.

A few years ago, I used to play new CDs to a fellow film music fan through Skype (using the stereo instead of a microphone as the input source). I've never liked talking on the phone a lot though (though I find myself more relaxed with it when it's accompanied by a webcam), so I hardly ever use Skype for its original purpose wink

Hey Kevin!

I'd love to add you to my Skype list. It's really fun to chat about scores with other fellow collectors. Please email me at robertolopes@hotmail.com

Best,
Bob.

Hi Kevin. "Soundtrackman" and I occasionally "skype", although one or both of us have had some camera issues from time to time. It's usually a PC quirk at his end--I am a Mac person.

Drop me a line at:

sturges47@earthlink.net

and we'll set up a time to try it.

Best,

Mark "Vinylscrubber" Stevens

Would you guys mind if I'd join in? I think Kevin's got a great idea! We should start Skypeing each other!
Bob

I sometimes use Skype. While the conversation may not always be film music, I always have a film score playing in the background. I think it was In Dreams by Goldenthal during the last session.

I am not so much into online chatting, but Skype is a very handy tool. I used it to communicate with a friend who composed music for a short film I made, with him in France and me in California. We spotted the film using live streaming video, had conversations in realtime while my friend played musical sketches and live improvisations. We then used an FTP to share sound files, which I dropped into the movie. My French is pretty rusty, but working that way cut through all barriers of language and distance, and it turned out to be one of the things I was most proud of in the film.

I'm moderately interesting in thinking about the possibility of looking into this. Is it easy to use? Are there problems with it? Does it need a lot of tech knowledge to set it up? I'm not a tech person and it may be more hassle than it's worth.

I know recently a composer recorded his score via Skype, the orchestra being in another country and the composer unavailable to be there in person. Amazing...

I use Skype for when I'm making a podcast at montages.no (as we're usually several people all around Norway gathering in one "cyber room"), but not really otherwise. I've never really liked "phone"-like conversations. Then I'd rather have a face-to-face conversation.
