I have the old LP.

Some of the following music played near the end of the scene is not on it, if I remember correctly. I could be wrong.

This version of the song with vocal, I don't think was on the LP either, but it does give you the taste of Elmer's Main Theme:

At the time of the film's release, there was a 45rpm single on Warner Bros Records with Harper's Bizarre performing the song (they sang it in the picture too).

Steve,

Did you ever watch the BARNEY MILLER series? A classic episode has Wojo passing around to the precinct men brownies baked by his hippy girlfriend. Hilarity ensues.

As a Warner film, I would expect it would get the attention of FSM at some point.

Let's hope, Mark. The score is very clever and catchy, if also perhaps a bit repetitious. "Somebody" smile made me a very nicely cleaned up transfer of the old Cinema LP, which is a fun thing to listen to. An official release from original scoring sessions, with track titles and liner notes would be a sure buy for me! Maybe paired with another Elmer short score, would be my choice. Not sure what.

The only Bernstein pairings available to FSM to go along with ILYABT would likely come from other Warner properties, over 25 years old. About the only candidates are:

The Miracle (1959) Probably needs a CD of its own.
McQ (1974) Already issued by FSM.
Bloodbrothers (1978) A Robert Mulligan drama with Richard Gere and Paul Sorvino.
This Year's Blonde (1980) TV movie about Marilyn Monroe.
Spies Like Us (1985) Already issued on a 37-minute CD by Varese; expansion may be possible, but probably would require a separate CD.

So, "Bloodbrothers" and "This Year's Blonde" are the most likely candidates for a pairing.

Actually, as I remember, there was almost enough music on that "Cinema Records" release to justify a single release of this one--maybe forty some odd minutes?

Not-that-great sound, but a decent editing job on the Harper's Bizarre vocal/tune/vocal can be hoid here -

What a shame it has never had a proper release, groovy score from Elmer Bernstein.

I remember this came out at a time when Elmer was king. He had his first LP released some 12 years earlier and by 1968 had more soundtracks published than any other composer bar none. That included around that time HAWAII, THE SCALPHUNTERS, WHERE’S JACK, CAST A GIANT SHADOW, THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER, RETURN OF THE 7, THE SILENCERS and many others. I was amazed how varied and unpredictable his scores were. TOKLAS had a wonderful driving theme as they were looking for their funeral they were supposed to attend. And when Leigh Taylor Young got the idea for the cookies Elmer revs up the music along with the mixer she uses. Comedy scores were not known for being this inventive outside Mancini. This as THE best psychedelic one I ever heard.

A glass of wine
with Gertrude Stein
I know I'll never share,
But I don't mind,
That's just the kind
of cross each man must bear.

You're so pusillanimous, oh yeah.
Nature's callin' an' I mus' go there.

Now how about this lyric?

Edith Sitwell giving readings
14 Moscow Road
Osbert's giving champagne parties
Sachie's got a cold
Gertrude's hanging pictures
Alice making tea
Me, I do the only thing that still makes sense to me

I love groovy sixties film music, but I thought the stereo tapes of this were missing, or I'm sure this would have been released by FSM.
