I saw this again and immediately, after the ORION logo finishes and the movie fades up, we see a thug running through a parkade. It's part of the MagnaVolt advert within the film. The film is from 1990, filmed in 1989.
The score accompanying it?:
1950's modern jazz music ala Rebel Without a Cause. The real deal, not a pastiche.
Maybe I am more aware of that stuff now, but WOW if that isn't the magic I think has since left cinema.
Anyone else stunned by that? elevated the movie considerably, I think.
Always nice to read comments from folks who appreciate Rosenman's work. I do like the Robo2 score - the "Robo vs Cain Chase" cue is a tremendous bit of action writing.
Far too detailed query for me. I saw the film once, about a million years ago, but can hardly remember anything of it (or its music). Wasn't there some kind of evil robot thingie that was more advanced than Robocop running around? And I seem to remember Robocop shooting some human villain through the window of a conference room. That's about it.
Generally, I find ROBOCOP 2 very Goldsmithish, in the way that I think it sounds like an Alex Northish action score with FM synths representing technology.

the last sentence you told about is a scene from Robo 1 - the music that accompany this scene is "Across the Board" - which would also be the last track on the album if you program the music in film order - a fine coda of the theme and a fine ending for the album
I have to say that Robocop 2 gets more spins than Robocop 1 and 3. Love the Overture - a really powerful piece of music!
the music is not me - the themes are not that strong like R 1 but the instrumentation and orchestrations are awsome
Actually that is very true - I am drawn to the power of the orchestration and performance rather than the theme (which I do like). I do agree that the themes from 1 are more varied and probably stronger. I don't know.....I just keep going back to Robo2
Proud to say that I am also a huge fan of the Robo 2 score (20 years old now!!!!! Unreal!), and think it has more charactar and colour than the cold, hard, bombastic Robo 1 which I have trouble listening to now - really puts me on edge? This score is wall-to-wall FUN!
I'll probably also get shot for revealing I ADORE the soundtrack to Star Trek IV too, which always seems to be trashed here for some reason. I thought the score - like the film - was a wonderful departure from the doom and gloom of Star Trek II & III. It fits the film like a glove! Love the 'nautical' sounding pieces of score in particular. Star Trek I still remains THE score for me, but this is my 2nd favourite (runs for cover!!!).
The Main Title is the standout track for me. I also love the jazz contained in the film too - perfectly executed... like the extras walking in front of the shop during the first scene
I'd love to see expanded/complete versions of both of them, though judging by the lack of popular opinion for both I guess that'll probably never happen :s

even if i don't like the themes that much to ROBO 2 i would definitely pick up and expanded release of that score
Robo Vs Cain Chase is one of my favorite cues. I also like the overture... but want to vomit when I hear Robocop being chanted. My favorite part in that long piece: 3:45 - 4:25. I love how the horns and flutes build.
Yes, Robo 2 is an odd score, but it fits the film quite well.

I think the cue Robo Cruiser starts off really rhythmically bold and militaristic, a driving RoboCop ostinato. Really really cool. Robo and Cain Chase is a dark, exciting and intense action cue. Love those xylophones! Why do so few composers use #*!%&( xylophones these days? Goldsmith got it. Beltrami got it. Rosenman gets it...

I like the STAR TREK IV score an awful lot, too. Lots of listens to it on the iPod going to work on the bus.

and john williams does it - he kind of have xylofon and marimba in all of his score - did you know that there are marimba on the fading melody segment at the very end of schindler's workforce
BTW what i like about ROBOCOP 2 is that the title is first revealed at the end credits - the film just begins with orion logo - then bang - rosenmann music in film commercial - then news segment - then violent sociaty where robo saves the day - no opening title of the film
love this
well actually i think they got the title misplaced in the end - they should start with ROBOCOP 2 just as rosenmann's music start with the fanfare instead of DIRECTED - and then the music begins and there it should be DIRECTED - could be cool - very cool musical experience
