Love both Martin Scorsese's film and Herrmann's brooding score to accompany the images of urban decay and paranoia.

I wonder just out of curiosity. Are there there any cues still missing from the expanded CD? Or, for that matter, any unused or alternate cues heard on the 2-disc Collector's Edition DVD?

Yes, but I'm not sure they're on the dvd.

Speaking of TAXI DRIVER. There is a certain Eugene Iemola credited (production assistant) in the movie's end credits. Does that happen to be 'our' Eugene Iemola who occasionally posts on this board? wink

Eugene told me that he worked on that movie during a rather lengthy phone conversation about 3 years ago, so yes!

Thanks a lot for this quick reply! I've always been curious about this ever since I saw the movie for the first time (which admittedly was only last year embarrassment).

He also made mention of it in the "random jobs..." thread: http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=64717&forumID=7&archive=0

Neat! I will try to ask him about his experiences on that film.

@Handstand:

Don't feel too bad about missing out on a popular film until now. I myself never watched "Good Will Hunting" until last week.

Just got back from seeing the restored "Taxi Driver" projected digitally at a local theater, and it looked and sounded great!

Wanted to mention that I saw Eugene Iemola's name in the closing credits, and it was all I could do not to shout out, HEY! I KNOW THAT GUY!!!

Your name's on the BIG screen again, Eugene. You're FAMOUS!

Doesn't bottle up his emotions, uses his horn to communicate on the road = happy driver.

Now that another 1976 score from Herrmann has imminent delivery I revisited the other score from '76.

I have a 2005 Taxi Driver from Sony/BMG rather than Arista. An usual black CD. Is this identical to the Arista in music and does it have improved sound?

I don't hear the voice over on this disc, which I remember when I had the Arista.

The Arista release had the score at the beginning (I don't recall if it was complete, but I think it was close), and then the album versions, including the Robert De Niro voice-overs and the David Blume-conducted tracks afterward.

The Criterion Collection laserdisc had an isolated music track on one of the analog channels (the other contained the commentary by Martin Scorsese and Paul Schrader), which included the entire score as well as source cues.

I've always wanted the simpler take of "Cleaning The Cab" from the film. Doesn't get all snazzy.

It has been awhile since I listened to this excellent Herrmann score. The Arista re-release is outstanding with 11 cuts from the film score, need I say more it is Bernard Herrmann. I'm pretty this was the complete score with superb sonics.

Considering I just watched Taxi Driver for the first time a few days ago I don't feel like I need much more than what we get on a suite I have. Not much besides the main theme that was all that interesting musically.
