I heard Richard Harvey's glorious piece for guitar and orchestra, CONCERTO ANTICO, on public radio and had to order a copy. The hauntingly beautiful "Cantilena" movement is the highlight for me. Performed by John Williams (guitar) and The London Symphony Orhcestra, the recording on CD is a bargan price of $7.99 at Amazon:

His "early music" roots are well to the fore in the fourth movement. Nice stuff.

I've heard this piece twice in the past couple of weeks (while listening to Classic FM) and I am now compelled to buy the CD.
It's really lovely...soothing...relaxing...and VERY Film Music-EEE.
Any other fans out there (apart from me and those two up there)?

The only thing I own of Harvey is his "Lifecycles" and "Fantasia" library music CDs with the Royal Philharmonic, both of which I enjoy a lot. I'll have to check this out - Thanks for the recommendation!

That Richard Harvey collection is one of my favourite albums ever. Top five!

Am I right in thinking these are original tracks, not re-recordings?
The booklet lists musicians and the term "suites" usually suggests re-recordings, but there's no mention of a recording date/venue/producer for this album. So are the suites simply edited-together soundtrack segments?

I'm not sure, I guess their originals but Silva can be vague in these things. Remember that Highlander compilation?

The suites sound wonderful though.

I'm 99,9% sure that these are original tracks.

I think I must have a thing for Guitar Concertos by Film Composers!
From Bernstein to Kamen, plus my love of Broughton's Old Man & The Sea, which led me to seek out it's inspiration (the music of Rodrigo), something about all that twanging over orchestra soothes my soul.
Having heard part of this on Classic FM - the 3rd movement, Cantilena *...also the longest and most beautiful - the CD arrived this week and I played it twice today.
It's in 5 parts, each a bit different in style from one another. It runs around 30 minutes (but the CD does have another Guitar Concerto on it, which I haven't played yet).
It's really lovely and money well spent.
Check it out!

Here's another one for you -- Paul Chihara hasn't written a huge amount of film and tv music but his Guitar Concerto is wonderful, and the recording easily obtained.

I'm gonna look for Harvey's...

Good morning!

I am student of Music Academy in Gdansk (Poland) and I'm under a big impression of Richard Harvey's Concerto Antico. I would like to play it on my diploma next year, but I can't find music score anywhere on the internet. Maybe someone has some information where can I get it? (of course I tried on Mr. Harvey's website, but for some reason it doesn't work).

Please, help!
