To hell with the expense this title deserves it's own thread, or two, or three! Like many more of us here, I have waited a long, long time to have my very own recording of this wonderful Elmer score, and now after all those years I have it (and not forgetting the lovely A Girl Named Tamiko too) and just in time for the Christmas holidays! It arrived today and I am listening to it now, oh hallelujah, Bruce Kimmel be praised! It's simply a dream come true, sounds wonderful, looks wonderful, one of the highlights of the collecting year, thanks Santa Bruce.

Okay, Niall, I'm jealous. I'm still waiting from SAE. Play it an extra time for me.

I'd imagine SAE got their shipment today, so hopefully you'll have yours soon, Joan.

And thanks, Niall, for starting a separate thread - this score deserves it (both scores, actually - the more I hear Tamiko the more I love it).

Well Joan you and I have often discussed this music in our emails, and it's simply sounding beautiful on this release, you will have it soon. I'm listening to it right now, I don't mind admitting that a few tears have been shed, it just has that sort of affect on me always, and why the heck not, it's magnificent! I'm on my fifth playing right now, and I have listened to A Girl Named Tamiko twice, that is so lovely also. Without a doubt, in a year of great releases this has to be at the top for me!

I have only watched the movie once, and of course I was familiar with the song, but I am loving Tamiko, to get both scores on one disc is truly wonderful, thanks again Bruce, I hope you can bring out more Elmer music!

I've never seen either film, nor heard either score, but after reading so many praises of both scores, I just added this CD to my Last Rites (Bruce Broughton) order with SAE.
It's been awhile since I picked up a new(old) Elmer CD, so I'm looking forward to hearing this one.

Mine arrived from Santa Bruce yesterday. Played it today. Love it. Now how come I never see A Girl Named Tamiko on TCM, etc?

Thank you, Bruce, "LWAPS" is just gorgeous will listen to "Tamiko" later this evening. "LWAPS" was one of my most wanted from one of my favorite films.

It's really hard to find it. I didn't want to write about it or even sequence it without seeing it, so I finally found a copy on eBay, a home-grown DVD of dubious origin and quality, and pan and scan, but I was able to at least see it and figure out what cue was where.

I had it on my TiVo.

The Carpetbaggers has got to become available, Steve, you're right. Remember all the hub-bub surrounding the release. My feeling at the time was that Joseph E. Levine was the devil.

The music, in the film, is way superior to the record. It's kinda like Sweet Smell of Success, big and trashy!

There's not a pint or two of Guinness associated with that shedding of tears, now, is there?

Would love also a two-disc release of WALK ON THE WILD SIDE, consisting of both the original film tracks and the "original" Choreo "soundtrack" album which I can hum forwards or backwards in my sleep from start to finish, I've listened to it so many times! Love love love Elmer!

To my mind, SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS is hard-boiled, but THE CARPETBAGGERS is indeed big & trashy. Regardless, someone please bring us official releases of both CARPETBAGGERS and WALK ON THE WILD SIDE! These are two essential Elmers.

Love With the Proper Stranger/Tamiko arrived yesterday in the mail (in Holland). This truly must be the best release of the year for me. I didn't know either film or score but I have almost all Elmer Bernstein CD's. Along my favorites are 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and 'Birdman of Alcatraz' and this is right up there as another one I will love just as much. It sounds pristine and clear and that is astonishing. The whole release is something like a miracle to me. A holy grail I never knew existed. Thanks so much Bruce!

Who me ? Nah, just a cup of Barry's Tea...but I did have a few pints of Guinness last Saturday in London!

Now, if Mr. Kritzerland or Lukas K managed to bring out a collection of Elmer's documentary scores for MGM i.e. The Wolfmen(1969), Alaska(1971), Appointment With Destiny:The Last Days of John Dillinger(1971) and maybe a few other surprises, I'd cry a bucket of tears...
