Guys, has there ever been a release for Ernie Freeman's brilliant music to the thriller The Double Man with Yul Bryner, and if so, what label?

Im fairly certain Ive seen a release somewhere in recent times but maybe Im getting mixed up?

When I saw this thread title I wondered if it was the Yul Brynner 1960's spy thriller you were referring to ... I remember seeing it many years ago, thinking it was good entertainment but - as I was just then getting into film music - thinking the score was rather poor.

But I'm sure I recall the name Stanley Black re: music though perhaps he was conductor (at that time I would not have known Ernie Freeman's name).

I checked IMDb (which decided to crash on me) and I see the first review criticises the music. Oh well.

Thanks musicmad. It aint just me thats seen it then?
I liked both film and music, although the film was, from memory, a doppelganger spy thing where you werent sure if good Yul had beaten bad Yul, so probably a little silly plot - but I loved the themes. Very infectious. The main title theme is especially good and I recall quite a prominent score throughout the film, especially the ski chase sequences. It may be fairly monothematic in that the main title reprises a few times in various guises I think - but I couldnt get enough of it. The film was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner who has a top pedigree.
I know there's DVD out but do I take it that it hasnt been released on CD?

I saw the film on it's initial release and remember thinking that it was an ok little Spy thriller, at a time when they were certainly very plentiful! To the best of my knowledge there has never been a soundtrack release.

P.S.
Just looking at Ernie Freeman's filmography and I see that he also scored a likable James Garner movie called The Pink Jungle which also starred a lovely looking German actress Eva Renzi, who tragically died young, what a pity, I thought she was very good in Funeral In Berlin. Anyway, her birthday is tomorrow 3rd November which coincidentally also happens to be John Barry's...and mine!!!

...

I recall liking YB's performance (my parents were horrified that I liked the idea of a man who showed no emotions ...) and whilst I remember very little of the narrative/action scenes I do recall ...

SPOILER:

... the end sequence where his friend/colleague has to shoot either him or his double and chooses the double when the latter states that he'd loved his (late) son. The friend tells YB that he knew he was the double because the real (YB) character had never loved anything!

I see Niall has increased the viewing figures by 50% ... I have no knowledge of James Garner's The Pink Jungle and I thought I was aware of his filmography. Over to IMDb ...

Just watching this again recorded from TCM the other night.

Still as good, and still brilliant music.

Lucky you! We no longer have TCM as I stopped paying for Sky. That said, I should check-out Virgin Cable as maybe TCM is one of their channels (we've had Virgin for over two months but hardly ever switch it on).

As for music, I see IMDb does attribute the conducting duties to Stanley Black ... perhaps my mind is not so sozzled after all smile and specifically, Ernie Freeman is credited with the Theme Music ... but what about the score?

Hi mate
I get TCM on my virgin cable package but it depends what package you get I think.

Freeman is the only credit on the music.

Huh? If 60 is young what would count as old then? 100?

Although her looks betrayed her age somewhat she was already a grandma when I met her a few years ago...

Best

I like that. Guess not many conductors happened to get their own title card.

Ernie Freeman's Double Man was magnificent, a guilty pleasure if you will. I group it with Harry Sukman's Naked Runner and Richard LaSalle's The Time Travellers. All different styles, but all deserving of a CD release. Will any of them ever see one... who can tell. I waited over 20 years for Goldsmith's Tora Tora Tora, so fingers crossed. The Naked Runner was actually highly rated, but still no CD.

If I could add a fourth score, then it would be The Desperados by David Whitaker with a beautiful main theme.

Bit late to the party george but yeah, double man definitely needs a release, even if on a twofer.
